I have worked in banks for close to 20 years and one person can never audit a vault alone. There has to be a second set of eyes, and physical counting of each bill. Sounds like the audit policies at 5/3 are either very lax, or that branch was not following the policy. Surprise audits are meant to catch anyone borrowing funds or fudging numbers. We did them monthly, counting the money with the teller present before the teller had a chance to make any corrections. Procedures were so tight that a miscounted penny could result in termination.
