I know what crimes are listed under Measure 11. Do you know people personally in prison under Measure 11? Do you have first hand experience with the justice system, seeing for yourself the underhanded things that go on? I do, and I can tell you that many of the people under Measure 11 do NOT deserve this kind of time. Many of them are put there because our society is jail happy and the proper time is not taken to truly find out the entire story behind a crime. I'm not saying get rid of all the laws. I'm saying get rid of Measure 11 and treat each crime individually. One law does NOT fit all.

Bottom line, the powers that be in our so not efficient government need to revisit the entire prison system. Measure 11 plays a significant role in overcrowding (as well as eating up precious funds). There are so many women sitting in prison for ludicrous amounts of time, and many for things that shouldn't require time at all. Don't let the sensationalists lead you to believe that every inmate serving Measure 11 is a threat to society. They only tell you about the really bad ones that should be there. There are equally as many who should not be sitting there for the length of time required by Measure 11. Get rid of Measure 11 and I bet you see less overcrowding and less money needed for the prison system.

This guy is lucky. Had he been charged and convicted in Oregon, he would have received a minimum of 75 months, and served every minute of the sentence. He also has the family's forgiveness. Hopefully he'll spend his time improving himself so that when he is released, he can be a positive, contributing citizen.

No, the news didn't give the full story. I was up there yesterday and the person was not just a cyclist. It was someone "bombing" down the road from Timberline. As we were driving up, about 10 or so "bombers" came flying down the road. Scared me to death since several were riding the center line. One slip and any one of them could end up under a car! We saw one wipe out as we drove by. That person got up, but unfortunately, the girl in this story did not. I hope she recovers.
