It’s a darkly comic spin on Bluebeard, because it is so over the top (seriously, who marries a man named Captain Murderer)? It gets VERY Sweeney Todd, with a particularly gross comeuppance for the villain. I’m not sure why Pratchett used it, other than it’s fun and a nice Easter egg for those who know. Anyway, it’s a fun read. Emelyn Williams used to read it in his one act play as Dickens, because Dickens loved his dramatic readings and that’s just the kind of story he’d have fun with.
