But that is the problem with these new amendments to the PIP legislation. They have categorised disabilities under the subtext "anxiety and Psychological distress" which will exclude the following people from PiP mobility, they include https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uplo...
Psychotic disorders –
Schizophrenia
Schizoaffective disorder Phobia
Social Panic disorder
Learning disability –
Agoraphobia
Anxiety and depressive disorders – mixed Anxiety disorders
Autism
Bipolar affective disorder (Hypomania / Mania)
Cognitive disorder due to stroke Cognitive disorders
Dementia
Depressive disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

These are serious Psychological disorders that can be seriously debilitating and affect peoples ability to live independently, which personal independence payment was intended for.

This Government has made a big thing out of treating mental health with parity of esteem, Theresa May now needs to lead from the front and prove that she meant what she said, otherwise it was just a soundbite.

@Diehard13

I want to take the opportunity to thank you for your reply.

I think we are done here though, I see absolutely no point in further engaging or entering a debate with someone who is so rigid in their views they are beyond rhyme or reason.

@terry22justice

I don't base my views on the opinion of one individual. I base it on the direction and policies of the party and this policy amendment to Pip legislation is simply wrong and flies in the face of everything that Prime Minister has said when she promised to tackle the parity of esteem between physical and mental health and tackle the injustices that many disabled people with mental health suffer from

@ jsorrell
"however does not diminish the need for a properly strictly supervised system which ensures aid only goes where it is properly merited"

I think most people agree that the system needs to be strictly supervised, the problem is the system and the assessments needs to be "personalised" rather than categorised, after all disabilities affects people in different ways, You can not have a one cap fits all approach to the system. Disability does not work that way

I really am astounded by your attitude, I don't know how to respond to you.

I will ask you this, if someone has been medically certified by a Psychiatrist as suffering from a Psychiatric Disorder, do you think that people should be treated the same as someone suffering with a physical disability if both disabling conditions place the same restrictions on someones ability to perform the same activity?
I am talking about people who have had an actual psychiatric diagnoses by a Psychiatrist not the people who have just been assessed by their G.P?

Your comments are most unfortunate and lack complete empathy towards some people who suffer from a seriously debilitating disease.

If someone has been officially diagnosed by a Psychiatrist with a recognised Psychological Disorder then the support should be there for these people.

Do you believe in parity of esteem or not?

I am just really surprised that Theresa May has not intervened personally on this issue.

On one of her first big domestic speeches after Brexit was, she made a big point about this government righting some of the wrongs and burning injustices, a major one of those she focused on was mental health and making sure that this government gave parity of esteem to those suffering with severe mental health issues.
This was a chance for her and her government to do so and it is deeply disappointing and distressing to many what has just happened.

As someone who has always voted Labour or Liberal Democrats, I was coming round to the idea of supporting the Conservatives, something I thought I would never do. My strong views on Brexit and wishing to leave the EU, I could never identify with Liberal democrats again.
Since Theresa May became Prime Minister, I genuinely believed that there was change happening in the Tory party and they were reaching out and finally appealing to ALL sections of society, the parties stance on mental health and parity of esteem had me truly believing that the Tory party where beginning to shake off their image of the nasty party.
That was until this weekend when I heard the comments from George Freeman in regards to people suffering with mental health conditions and his dismissive nature of this debilitating disease and the Governments changes to legislation to deny people suffering from severe mental health conditions from being awarded PIP.
The party either believes in parity of esteem or it does't, otherwise it's just talk.

Guess I wont be switching to Conservative after all.
There are a lot of sick, disabled and working class voters who voted for Brexit and probably started to think differently about the Conservatives, looks like the party is going to throw all that progress away already because of these comments and changes to disability benefits

Do you know what?
I really can not be arsed to engage with you any further. You are a bigoted idiot.
Thankfully, you are in today's times, a part of an ever decreasing group of voices

We should be thankful to people like you though I suppose, because it is opinions and attitudes like yours that got us the anti discrimination laws and protections in the first place.
It serves to remind us just how far we come.

So thanks for that ;-)
