Scott Granneman's Classes : Clay Shirky on how Facebook killed privacy

We have the right to not post things on the social sites and most of us still choose to do so. I think we have to be the ones to protect ourselves.

Scott Granneman's Classes : Schools cracking down on teen Web site MySpace

The people that act like someone they are not and finding our kids on line is one of the biggest fears I have as a parent. I monitor all the activity that goes on across it. We have been blessed the kids do come and tell us when something seems not right and they make a mistake and go someplace they don't mean to go. But it is a small lane to try and monitor and still give them the freedom to explore and to function on the internet. We want them to be safe and also have the freedom learn.

Scott Granneman's Classes : How Facebook & MySpace can affect you when job hunting

I agree with Scott and didn't think about it tell he said it. What about the things people post about you. Someones thoughts or passing comments could cause a problem. What about the sites you belong to or the threads you follow. Could your personal places you visit be used against you if people in your life don't agree with the subject matter you follow. Made me think.

I have to say 2bless is correct it is going to be very a big change when recruiting employees duties of the Human Resource departments use the social websites to not only find employees but also do research on those people. I am sure we all have heard stories of those people that wished they didn't have some of those old videos or blog post or pictures from back in the day on the web for all to see. In a way it could make you more respectful on what you allow to be published about yourself.

We have been running a family blog for awhile and we have enjoyed it. My daughter uses one to put pictures on that she takes and addes her own words of wisdom. "At 12 those words sometimes surprise me." You can see her blog at http://www.nikipollard.blogspot.com/

Scott Granneman's Classes : Beginner's guide to podcasts and podcasting

I am going to make this a family project and see if we can create our own podcast. Something my kids have wanted to try. They came up with the idea as a way to allow them to record things for my mother who has been in the ICU for almost 20 weeks now to hopefully hear. I enjoyed the article by Racoma, J. Angelo. "Beginner’s guide to podcasts and podcasting (plus: how to create a basic podcast of your own)".

What a great article. I have to say in offering this service you have to know your audience. First you need to know if they will use the RSS feeds or do you need to offer a email version also. (Great point I didn't think about) The other is what I commonly hear from my kids and that is "I don't see how to do that on this page". I have never been into the RSS feeds very much but have started doing this more and more with my kids and the things they like to keep updated about. You know the sports scores and the latest about what the Webkinz are doing. HaHa

Scott Granneman's Classes : Brent Mayabb articles on Twitter, Fall 2009

The 9 ways Twitter can help in the real world answered a few things for me since I am new to using twitter. It can and does often becomes more than what it was made for. It's another avenue to be more social and. During my vacation this past weekend I was sitting by the lake just before sunset talking to another father watching our kids play. His oldest was playing with my daughter and he was having trouble understanding the twitter idea. Him and I talked about it and I helped him setup his daughters twitter account so my daughter and his could continue friendly exchanges after we all parted ways after this weekend.

You have to love our digital footprint. It brings to mind the simple fact companies are using public records to verify who we are anymore. I was floored when I called a company I do business with and they had to identify me by either asking a public records question or by sending me a form to sign and get notarized.

HOW TO: Use Twitter for Customer Service what a magnificent use of technology. Customer service is all about presence as they said. How many times have you walked around inside Home Depot or Lowes trying to find someone to help you? Hmmm wonder if I can tweet a request for help in the garden center? Unlike most places the Apple store blows my mind every time I get a chance to sneak off and look in it with the level of customer support they offer to the people in the store. As technology changes it is suppose to make our life easier for the most part. I think this could be very helpful in the customer service area.

I have resisted using Tweet on my cell phone, simply put I get enough calls and buzzes and chimes from the thing. I use the desktop apps more than anything. In the article I did learn some new things about searching on Twitters Web interface that I did not even pay attention to before I read the article and started poking around. The TweetCall service made me laugh. I wonder who would need to use that service with all the other options available. Wait come to think of it my dad could use that pretty easy. lol

The artical 'Why I don't Use Twitter' Sure make you think about the information make available. I myself was going to post a twitter about this weekend events. I guess like any technology that comes around someone will and always does find a way to use it to do more harm than good. It's part of the digital footprints we leave around the world as we open our life to the newer faster better thing they show us. I agree with we have to be conscious of what information we’re making available. How do you protect the boundary you have set to limit your risk?

Scott Granneman's Classes : It's Not Just Usability

I often use family members to gauge the usability of sites I suggest they use. It seems most of the results from my litmus test came down to how user friendly the site was for those less technical. Besides the wow factor if the social software does not make it user friendly for the audience it quickly gets pushed off to the not used so much area of my family software/website grave yard.
