I hope the good attitude continues because there were times last year that he looked lazy in the outfield, not hustling after balls hit into the corner. His base running, ouch. I think he does have some raw talent but that needs to be funneled into performance on the field.
The Terps have had a very good season but the ACC has been down this year. They might do well in the ACC tourney but I wouldn't get my hopes up for a Sweet 16 or Elite 8 run during March Madness. Other conferences are better this year which obviously isn't the norm, take pride in what the Terps have done but don't get too excited about the NCAA tourney.
I went in on the 13 ticket deal on Sunday so I'll take Ravens2488 out for a game or two this season, shove a couple dogs down his pie hole, sing "Take me out to the Ballgame", and have a great day.
I can't relate with you guys on this whole 12 year things because I didn't grow up in this area, actually I grew up in the cow pastures without MLB so I'm just glad to have a team to root for, go to some games and enjoy the sport. I want them to compete at this point, hovering around .500 would be nice, but they have to show improvement or they will lose those of you that are hanging on hoping for a comeback. I understand everyones angst, I just don't share it.
I'm in a wait and see mode, they have made some decent moves the last couple years but the time to pay dividends on those move needs to happen sooner rather than later. Here's hoping for sooner.
Mark,
Don't go soft on us now! Part of the fun is to take a poke at one another and have some fun with it. I think the last three of four posts I put on there were just to get you pissed to see what you would say. Keep the posts coming....
I have a co-worker that talks about how shallow Jones plays and the last time this guy was on a field was 1974 when mullets first came out. I like him playing shallow because that takes away the soft liner into the outfield and in most cases he has the speed to get back and cover the length of the outfield. Remember, AJ was a Gold Glove winner last season and he has more to come. I don't think he needs a bunch of weekend warriors giving him advice on the finer aspects of center field.
Just a figure of speech Mark, nothing fact based. Four teams in four years does make you wonder though. Are you related to Stallworth in some fashion, you have gone to battle for this guy on numerous occasions like I would for my own brother. "I can pick on him but no one else better go after him."
I wouldn't put much stock into Ravens2488. He knocks whatever move the O's make. If they would have gone after a vet catcher, he would have complained they were wasting money on the guy which could have been used better elsewhere. I remember him complaining about the Tejada trade which brought in 5 players and the Bedard trade that brought in Jones. I will say he has 12 years of material to work with so he doesn't have to think hard though. On guys like Ravens2488 and Mark, they have seen 12 years of futility so they will have to see a difference on the team before they will take a sip of the cool aid.
STG, so when did doing something that a fellow sports fan hates ever keep you from doing it. I'm surprised your not putting a "cut and paste" on every email your sending just to push Mark to the edge. Keep em coming.
I'm starting to think more and more that Hardballs should run for political office. I don't disagree with what you two have just stated on him. Where I differ is we should go after T.O. for a one or two year deal. This current team has one, maybe two more years before Lewis is gone. I say pull out all the stops and try to win it next year. STG can tell you I can't stand T.O. but if he can be a siginifcant factor to them winning a championship, I'll keep my mouth shut for the short term. We already have Donte so the genie is out of the bottle, why not get one more talented malcontent with talent. Make it happen baby, make it happen.
"Totalitarianism" what are you talking about. This time STG, you have gone off the deep end. We should be consistent in our evaluation of coaches and players. If we only judge players by on the field play, we should judge a coach by his record. Get off the sideline antics of the coaches entourage and talk about record. 20-12 regular season record, 3-2 post season record, not a bad start.
