ploked.com : Twitter Etiquette: Is it Wrong To Ask For a Retweet?

i would say it is not required to thank someone for those, but when possible i would thank anyone for a retweet regardless if it was for an automated/feed tweet or not. as for the plugin, it is called "SocioFluid" :)

ploked.com : Google Pagerank Obsession is Lame

thanks for the reply. unfortunately i don't see where i "dog" these established practices you are referring to? in fact, i agree with long term link building as a result of good content mentioned in my post as well as in your response. i do however dog people that think a higher pagerank makes their site/themselves SEO gurus when they can't show a legitimate example of rankings for keywords that matter to their niche. these same people are often the users you see posting on forums who don't understand why their site doesn't get traffic even though it is a PR 3 site or something. i did not mention social media as a form of increased SEO/PR because of the fact the majority of them are no follow like you mention. this blog post was more of a rant about users i have seen on other various sites touting their newest pagerank update thinking it defines the success of their "SEO skills", when in my opinion is just a small piece of the SEO puzzle. pagerank is not the determining factor of one's SEO skill is all i was trying to get at and the people who obsess over it really do not have a clue....

ploked.com : 4 Worst Types of Twitter Users

it is ok to tweet links to your site(s), but you need to be sure that your followers will benefit from your tweet. one key to twitter is to provide useful information to your followers....if you are doing this, then they will find value to your tweets and more than likely check out all your tweets. i don't suggest only tweeting to your site, but to find information/sites related to your niche and tweet them as well. the more great stuff you share (whether yours or someone elses), the better/stronger your twitter following will grow.

it really depends on your followers perspective...some might have higher tolerances for certain users...if any of these apply to you, i would definitely use them moderately or you could end up losing followers that get upset with certain tactics/actions.

A Shift In Action : Social Equity vs. Technology

could not agree with you more regarding how apple succeeded with the iphone while microsoft got caught with their pants down. apple always seems to be one step ahead of microsoft and leading the way of innovation. as for getting started in social media, i think you laid out 5 very important steps to get your feet wet with building your personal/business brand...social media is an evolving creature so there is always something new to learn each day with it!

good points mike. giving your followers something to expect/look forward to each day is very important to build a following. i do my best to write atleast one new blog post on ploked.com each day...i know there are many who look forward to seeing what i have to say. but questions of the day can be very powerful. while i don't do one for each day, occasionally i ask questions to generate new blog topics :)
