There are a lot of new malls. Even though people struggle to make ends meet they always have money for new clothes. This give the impression that there is money flowing. There is not. When we go back to Venezuela my wife is heartbroken to see just how bad it has gotten (she has been here for 5 years). Venezuela is a land that will grow anything. It has very fertile soil. However, Chavez has placed price controls on pretty much everything, all in the name of helping the poor. Leftist buy this crap for some strange reason. The effect is that farmers who used to sell eggs can longer make profit. So, they have stopped producing more than what their family needs. You walk into the stores and the shelves are empty for this reason. All because Chavez wants to help the poor. It is horrible.
