HollenbackDotNet : HollenbackNet - Caltrain Clipper Failure

Thanks for the reminder Paul! I&#039;ve updated my posting with my findings. You don&#039;t ever need to tag off if you have an autoloaded monthly pass on your clipper card. You just need to double tag before boarding the train.

Helen, we did not have a washer and dryer in our apartment (we&#039;ve since moved out of the city). We also struggled with carrying the wash to the laundromat. Luckily we found a neighborhood lady who cleaned our house once a week and also did laundry for us.

HollenbackDotNet : HollenbackNet - BigCityToddler

Hi Bob, thanks for reading! Our son slept in his porta-crib and then toddler bed next to our bed until he was almost 3. Then his brother came along so we finally moved to a two bedroom. If you have just have one kid, you can definitely keep them in a toddler bed next to your bed until they are around four. However after that you should consider a two bedroom apartment. I also suspect you could do some sort of trundle bed arrangement to free up floor space if you keep your kid in your room.

HollenbackDotNet : HollenbackNet - Web Hosting Options

Thanks for the info Rob! I&#039;ve updated my notes to include something I forgot to include first time around - none of this makes me any money, so I want the most flexibility I can get for the least amount of money. Ideally, that&#039;s under $10/mo. for hosting. $20/mo is more than my hobbyist noodling around is worth to me.

HollenbackDotNet : HollenbackNet - Old Toys Are Better

Wow Fred, awesome point about eyes on toys, didn&#039;t think about that (and don&#039;t worry I&#039;m in no danger of becoming a conservative). Maybe the eyes on modern toys actually point towards an infantilizing trend in toys? I understand that eyes on toys might engage babies more, but I can&#039;t imagine a 6-10 year old would care about that at all. My eldest boy is four and he seems very interested in realism in his play. What does it say about our culture that we want all children to play like babies?

HollenbackDotNet : HollenbackNet - NyMoveTips

Safety is not a big deal, in my experience NYC is very safe. Money is a concern. I would encourage you to explore ways to maximize your marketability before you go. For example if you want to teach in NYC you should research what you need to to do get your teaching certificate before you go. Then again, if you can move there rent-free you should DO SO IMMEDIATELY. That is a fantastic opportunity.

Well I guess there are two different points here: first yes the <br />biggest thing in the picture is probably the subject. Second you <br />should think about your subject before you take the picture - so many <br />people just take pictures without thinking about what they are trying <br />to accomplish.<br /><br />But yes in general you are right.

Tech/Breakfast : http://www.techbreakfast.net/2009/04/beginning-photography10-tips.html

I disagree with #4 - the subject is the thing you pick as the subject when you take the picture. I find often that I want to take a picture of a busy scene (say on a city street) but I don&#039;t know what I am actually taking a picture _of_. I feel you have to take a moment to answer the question, &quot;what am I taking a picture of?&quot;. That is not necessarily the thing that fills most of the frame - some of my best photos are of a small, unobtrusive thing in the corner of the frame. But I think your points are very valid - I would add something about taking a lot of photos and throwing away 99% of them maybe. Particularly now that I have a digital camera I almost always bracket everything.
