If I could meet this author before he was sent to jail, I would tell him that he should live life everyday like it was your last, smile often, and live life with no regrets. This is the key to happiness. Smiling everyday and enjoying life puts many years onto your life! I would tell him to appreciate those who care about him, and love the ones close to him with all your heart. You may not have them one day and you will regret not loving them with all your heart. He regrets not loving when he had the chance to love, and that’s a terrible thing to happen to someone. part 3/3

After reading, “If prison has taken anything away from me”, it made me realize how lucky I am to actually love someone. This man has been sent to jail for life and has been given up on and has given up on loving another. He said, “Prison has taken anything away from me it is the chance to love and to be loved. To look across the crowded room and find the person who is my world looking at me the person who is theirs.” You only live once! I like to live life never saying, “I wish I had….”. If you don’t, then what is the point of living at all? I personally love everything that is around me. Well that’s actually not true, I get mad sometimes at my family and friends but I still love them. part 1

World In Conversation : Family

I know that he says they are all good guys, but I really couldn’t see myself committing such a crime that gives me life in prison and still be considered a good guy. I feel that I am very blessed. I come from a good strong loving family, and have a great group of friends. My father says that me me everyday, that I have a great group of friends, and that is something very important to have to get you through life. But first and foremost, family comes first. Your friends will come and go, you always can make new friends. But the fact of the matter is that your family will always be there for you to love and support you through the good times and also through the bad. Sometimes I take that for granted, but my parents only want what is best for me and I truly do love them for that. 2/2

World In Conversation : Family

It is true. Many of these prison inmates aren’t terrible people; they just made bad decisions in their life time. Some of them are bad people though, that is why they are in prison for life in the first place. Some of them are murderers, rapists, and thieves. While others may have been a part of a crime that was committed in the past. I really do feel for this man, he went from having a connection from the outside world by receiving mail from 5-8 pieces of mail a week from 5-8 pieces of mail a month. But what this man said about his “family” is this: He found friendship with the other men in prison who were actually good guys. He even said that they were not assholes because who would want to be friends with an asshole? This makes sense. This man didn’t seem to have a true family on the outside because he said that they owed him something from the way they treated him when he was on the outside. But he’s lucky to have a good group of friends in prison/ he makes them about to be pretty good guys, and it does seem that way. 1/2

World In Conversation : What a man is...

I don’t know how this man used to treat women when he was out of jail, but it doesn’t seem pretty. I always stop to think why some people have to be in prison for many years to change. It’s ashame because if they had just been good people outside of prison then they wouldn’t be facing life. I’m not saying this man isn’t a good man, but it sounds like he had to go to prison to become a good man. So, maybe it’s a good thing that he went to prison. Prison sometimes helps people grow as an individual which is amazing. Some times I don’t treat girls the way they should be treated, so I can relate to this man. I would never hit a girl, but sometimes I would yell at girls and call them names that I regret after I have done it. Have you ever heard the saying, “She’s only a girl?” If not your lucky, you never want someone to say that to you, because then you feel like an idiot after you have done something you shouldn’t have. But overall with relationships its sometimes frustrating that the girls don’t appreciate what the guys are doing. A little appreciation shouldn’t be too hard to ask for.
World In Conversation : What a man is...

This first part of this post related to me very well. My girlfriend and I had recently just broken up out of nowhere. She was a typical little blonde cheerleader, daddy’s little girl type. She always got what she wanted from everyone around her. I really did love her, and I treated her like a little princess. You should always treat a girl with respect and go above and beyond to please her. But what I don’t agree with in relationships is how they are usually one sided. What does the girl ever do except bitch and complain about her problems to you. I’m not saying all relationships are like this, maybe I just went out with that type of girl. I was taught at a young age to always respect women and not treat them like one of the guys. That is certainly true, but for a relationship to be healthy you need both sides to treat each other with the same level of respect. The girl shouldn’t always expect something from you.
World In Conversation : FEAR

You mean to tell me that there is NOTHING you can do in that type of situation. I know it’s an awful situation, but use your brain, don’t stick around to see what these terrible people are going to do to you next. Try to act on the situation. It’s now or never. You can’t get mad at the kid for murdering his parents though, which is one sole act. The acts that were done to him his whole life, I personally think were a lot worse. They drove him to this state. They weren’t just lousy parents, they were sick individuals. The man had a sports car and an airplane and made his son walk around in hand me down clothes and deprived him of a normal childhood. These people deserve to be dead, not the child who was stripped of his life from his own two parents and family. 2/2

World In Conversation : FEAR

Wow. This was one of the saddest stories that I have read so far in this class. A young child being raped and abused by his own father. His other siblings getting everything , and he getting nothing. A mother who tries to drive her child to suicide. First off, why is he getting all of this abuse, and no other child in their family? Why aren’t his brothers and sisters helping him? I don’t understand how every terrible thing that happens in his family is being directed solely towards him. These sound like some fucked up and sick parents. Personally, the first act of abuse or rape if happened to me, I would tell somebody about it right away, and not wait as long as he did. I wouldn’t be able to put up with a family like that. Running away to someone close to you or someone who cares about you like the woman he was talking about, could be a logical option as well. If I got raped by my father I would probably kill him right there and plead self-defense. Not wait thirty years to murder both parents, that’s not a logical way to go about it. 1/2

.................I could never take the life another person intentionally. But any of us could take the life of someone unintentionally. If we are driving a car and say the sun gets in our eyes, and we hit someone and kill them and sent to jail for life. But risking my freedom, and killing someone and being sent to jail is something I could not live with. These Cold frost bitten people have to live with their choices for the rest of their life now.

..............Freedom is something that is taken for granted. We are free to make choices everyday in our life. In the morning when we wake up, get out of bed, and start our day we do that because of our freedom. We are all individuals and have the freedom to be ourselves. When we were little our parents taught us right from wrong. Even though we were taught what is a right choice and wrong choice from our parents and teachers, we still have the freedom to choose between the two. We as humans should know how to make the right choices. If we choose to make the wrong choices we are going to pay for it in the long run. If we choose to harm someone or steal, we are most likely not going to get away with it and be sent to prison..................

Cold” and frost- bitten souls. If we had second chances in life all of our lives would be perfect. But this exceprt/poem written by these lifers, stating that their heart is “cold” and frost bitten. He is surrounded by other cold souls, and living in hell. Being in jail is our choice, we can choose to be a “cold hearted” killer and can be sent away for it for life. If you truly don’t want to be in prison and you did not want to kill someone you wouldn’t have done it. These “cold souls” were once free man able to make choices and with his full freedom. Now they are prison for the rest of his life for obviously a terrible crime to get them life in the first place.............

Second chances. If we had second chances in life all of our lives would be perfect. This fourteen year old boy who assisted in taking the life of a man who loved him and helped him in life. He said that if he could be killed and tortured n the most horrendous way, to get back the life of the man he killed he said he would.
.........We really shouldn’t take our freedom for granted because it is a part of us. I know what freedom is as a college student. These are the greatest four years of our lives and we should make the most out of it. I joined the club lacrosse team and a fraternity. I am free to make these choices because of how many options Penn State has to offer. We have the freedom to choose from the options we are given. I will make the most of my freedom for the rest of my life.

.....................But the thing with being in prison, you may think that you are not free, but prison will never take your individualism and ability to make choices. Even though it’s freedom on a lesser scale, you are still free. I would never be able to commit a crime that would diminish my freedom though. My individualism and freedom is so important to me, that I would never be able to do something that could jeopardize that. I really don’t feel bad for people who are in jail and are regretful for what they have done. If they were truly sorry, they wouldn’t have committed the crime in the first place. This article looks at the life in a prisoner who has lost most of his freedom, but the prisoner doesn’t realize how much freedom he actually has until he is sent to prison...............

After reading “Fear”, it made me think the complete opposite way that the author thinks. Living life in fear is no way to live your life. I am personally a very adventurous person, and love trying things that are new and exciting. I have been white water rafting, rock climbing, played many sports, and will continue to take on new adventures as I go on through live. This author is scared to live. I feel like this is ridiculous. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE! I like to live life never saying, “I wish I had….” You have to go out in the world and experience new things. If you don’t, then what is the point of living at all? I personally would love to go sky diving. I heard it is such a rush and something that everyone should at least experience once in their life. You jump out of an airplane and are free falling from thousands of feet. What can be more exciting than that...................
