Thanks Dhlizard. I do have SHSH saved on Cydia.
When you say restore to 3.1.2 how do I do this? Can I do it officially or should I JB to 3.1.2?
In the past I have used iClarified tutorials which all use Dev Team tools. http://www.iclarified.com/tutorials/iphone/index....
Also do I need to do something regarding the SHSH?
Do I need to retrieve it through Cydia or something first?
I assume that right at the end when iTunes asks me if I want to re import all my data or set up as new phone - I set up as a new phone and do not sync with computer.
Sorry I'm not so high tech !
thanks

How do I wipe a 3GS preserving the JB/Unlock ?

I am selling my 3GS and want to wipe all the personal information. Apple says to do this using "Erase All Content and Settings" in Settings > General > Reset.
But will this remove the JB/Unlock?

thanks for any help

REMOTE WIPE:
If I use remote wipe will it affect the unlock on my 3GS?
Would like to sell it and buy iP 4.
Also is this the best way to wipe your phone if you're selling it?
thanks for any advice

Yes thanks it worked.
I suppose "turn it off" could be ambiguous i.e. just switched off, as in standby
thanks anyway

BTW your method for putting in recovery doesn't work on my 3GS (on Mac)
because if I hold down Home continuously the Voicecontrol pops up !
Even if I connect it before it pops up - nothing happens - just mounts as normal in iTunes.
Maybe it's something to do with Windows
thanks

Thanks...I am trying to go into recovery mode so I can find out if I have old or new bootrom. I'm following instructions from a thread below. There seems to be some debate over how to find out which bootrom you have. One person says you can tell from the ser no /model no. Then someone else said this is not correct you have to go into recovery and look at info through System Profiler.
Also I believe when restoring with custom firmware through Pwnage this involves holding down Power and Home for 10 secs as described (which I did successfully last time with Pwnage)
then keep holding the Power button and iTunes says it has detected a phone in recovery mode.
but the phone doesn't want to let me do it now, thats all.
