I can recommend a few if you give them a chance: http://www.thomascenter.org/staff/ Father Peter, Father John and Matt B. Father Bill at Sacred Heart on Mapleton is also an older priest with a big heart and he radiates joy. Call/email and set up an appointment to chat with them. You won't be disappointed.

Daily Camera.com: : Boulder DA to appear at City Council tonight to discuss Mapleton elk case - Boulder Daily Camera

Like I said, I think the punishment of firing/forcing resignation was necessary, but the whole situation is just sad. I have run into both bad and good cops, and I believe the bad ones would have more than one one other issue come up in 14 years of service. Based on the info, I will choose to give these guys the benefit of the doubt either way and think of them as ignorant hillbillies who made a big mistake (I didn't call it an accident--there were bad decisions that led up to the circumstances), rather than completely crooked cops.

Fair enough. Accused does not mean he did it way back then though. For every crooked cop, there's probably ten cop haters looking for every opportunity to bring these guys down. One accusation in 14 years does not sound like a lot to me. How many times did he risk his life on the job, save lives, deal with drunks, or do traffic duty without complaint? Maybe he was just really good at abusing his power and getting away with it. That's just speculation though. We know he made a big mistake here and that's about it.

This whole story is sad. As a nature lover, I feel bad for the elk and local residents that enjoyed marveling at it. At the same time, I feel bad for these officers and their families for making such a huge mistake that cost them their jobs after 5 and 14 years in the force. They took advantage of their positions in a way that causes animosity and a loss of trust by the people they protect, and therefore I agree with the decision that they needed to leave. However, everyone makes mistakes and if this was their worst, then I don't believe they are the scum that everyone on this board is making them out to be. Hillbillies and ignorant, yes, but I am still hopeful they were good officers and had integrity during most of their time on the force.

Daily Camera.com: : Man accused in DUI wreck that caused pregnant Longmont woman to lose baby in court - Boulder Daily C

This unborn baby was "due within days". Although I don't agree with it, most pro-choicers won't even approve of abortion in the third trimester. Complain about the terms as much as you want--the fact is that had this man not caused this wreck, that baby could have been taken out of the mother's womb at any time and would be with us today. It was alive, heart-beating, moving, and kicking. That mother carried it for nine months and has suffered a huge loss. It was an innocent life. It was as sacred as any other human.

"Carissa Podhurcak said she used to have prejudices about the homeless herself. She thought they were all drug addicts or alcoholics or people who didn't want to work." Unfortunately for Carissa and the group of homeless people who don't fall into this category, the prejudices are confirmed time and time again. The countless guys with the signs that read "Why lie, I need a beer" don't help the cause, nor do the groups laying around all day by the library in a cloud of smoke. I'm happy to support the non-addicted and non-lazy homeless. Should I just give them the benefit of the doubt and assume the people I'm giving money to are hard workers down on their luck? Should I be judging them even if they are lazy addicts? I would love to see some accurate stats that divide the homeless into either addicts, choosing the lifestyle, or truly down on their luck. Maybe this would help...

I see your point, but I never said bikers can't be foolish and cause accidents. They certainly can. In general, however, someone can do more damage with a baseball bat than with a chopstick. Therefore the person with the bat should be a little more aware of where they are swinging. The person with the chopstick can cause great damage under the right circumstances, but in general, this is not the case.

Agreed. Even if the the numbers of foolish drivers vs. foolish bikers are equal, a car can do much more damage than a bike, therefore caution should be greater when driving a car around less-protected people. Similarly, a semi can do much more damage than a car, and we expect semi drivers to drive carefully. With great power comes great responsibility.
