But not to say that isn't possible. The trees actually served as a kind of natural barrier and I think that now that they're gone the track owner should put up a reinforced catch fence like the one they have on the front straight away where the grandstands are at. The tires, ugly or not, do work and protect the driver better than a concrete or steel barrier. This practice is used around the world even at some of the most premier tracks. But they won't stop an airborne car and that's why I think the catch fence is needed. They are kind of an eyesore, but you have to look at it in context to the race track. They're there for a reason and not because it's just some abandoned trash. I think it's worse driving by the treatment plant and smelling all of Yakima's crap then looking at an ugly tire barrier but that's just me.
