No horses don't have the capeability to care if the trash is there. That's not the point, the point is their saftey...It's no secret horses are accident prone, the more trash you have the greater chance you have for injury.
I firmly believe that a single individual, employed full time to do so, can take GOOD care of a maximum of 12 horses if they are stalled and maybe 15 to 20 at pasture depending on how the property is laid out and how labor-intensive activities like feeding and catching them are. That's it. If you have more than what you can handle, I will bet you any amount of money that I will find untreated injuries, unnoticed health conditions, and odds are excellent that things like feet will not be up to date or anywhere near. That's just what happens. None of us are Super(wo)man, and we can only do so much in a day. Having a reasonable number of animals that you can provide proper care for is always the right decision whether you're a rescuer or a private owner. As far as the horse market sucking, yes it does, because there are so much over breeding going on in this country. If she panicked because she couldn’t afford them and couldn’t sell them, she should have called a vet out and put them down, plain and simple. This is such a touchy topic for me, people really need to get their heads screwed on strait.
To start off, did you ever see these horses in person? If your answer is no then you didn’t see the whole thing. Some of the horses were not only starving they were emaciated, to such an extent that they were living out their final days. In my opinion, she should serve jail time I have absolutely no tolerance for this sort of action. It is no secret that the economy is in a really tough place right now and feed and hay prices are outrageous, however, that is no excuse. What people need to understand is the fact that we do not have the simple right to own horses, it is a luxury. If she wanted to keep those horses healthy and was trying her best then she should have given up something of her own, I did see a boat sitting in the front yard and what about cable? Does she really need cable?
