As much as you probably support Bush pushing his beating of the war drums which will in the long run cost us 10's of trillions. That's what you want in a president? At least Obama's trying to find a way to help the uninsured which saves lives instead of Bush killing lives. Why is it that we are the only nation that doesn't have universal healthcare? 50% of bankruptcies are due to medical costs and over half of those have insurance. This doesn't happen in other civilized countries. So yes I'm somewhat happy that he at least started the ball rolling, he just didn't go far enough. And you're okay with the disparity of wealth I guess? And I'm also sure that you were up in arms when Halliburton and KBR were breaking the law and receiving millions of tax payers dollars. Easy to point fingers when it doesn't offend you. Really?

I can handle that. I'm now wishing Hillary C. would have won because maybe she would at least push for why I vote Democrat. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if Ron Paul won the nomination but the crazies on the right wouldn't allow that.

I'm not saying you were but you know it's goes on a lot here. He blames Bush for two reasons, politically and because he really really messed this country up. It's almost as if he did it on purpose, ( I really don't think that but it just seems that someone would have to intentionally screwed up that bad). Obama has made me pretty sad for the last 3 1/2 years because he didn't push for what we voted him in office for. I'm sad that he and the Democrats seem to have no balls to stand up for what they believe in. At times, I can have a true distain for the Republican Party but at least they do stand up for their ideals. Sorry I digress, but in defense of Obama, it seems that at every turn he is historically blocked for any attempt to get some legislation done. He's presented things that Republicans had tried to pass just a few years ago and now they are vehemently against it. He actually has tried to include Republicans and I wish he just did it Texas style and did it alone. Time will tell though when it comes to the stimulus program and where we would have been without it, DADT, and we'll see where health care lands in the future as well.

Hope it's not one of the current GOP candidates. If that's all they have to offer then you are in huge trouble. It's unfortunate that the crazy hard core tea party people who boo gays in the military, cheer for someone to die with a lack of health insurance and erupt with applause in regards to the death penalty are the ones who drive the conservative political process. I know there is someone within the party who could run who has a normal mindset. Problem is they won't because they will have to pander to the tea party. There is a lot of Obama bashing going on here which is fine because truth be told I did my fair share of Bush bashing. Let's be honest though, if any of the current candidates had won 3 1/2 years ago we'd still be in the same crap hole we are in now. There is too much visceral hatred from the extreme on both sides to compromise on anything. The political landscape is very sad right now.

KATU - Portland, OR : Longview union protesters face off with train in grain dispute | Business | KATU.com - Portland News

Let me answer your initial question then doucher. Unions don't directly improve schools, they indirectly do this. If it wasn't for the union and it's reps my wife would not have a job. The board tried to cut counselors in her district yet her reps fought tooth and nail to save her job in which they succeeded. Now she is able to continue to help the students that need it most. I wouldn't consider them thugs by any means nor are they holding her hand. (That's why I called you a doucher by the way). Side note, why do corporations need lawyers and tax people, shouldn't they be able to represent themselves. Point being, she has a Master's in her field, she is not educated to the ins and outs of the bargaining aspect, hence the representation. Use your brain Chris. They also help bargain for appropriate wages and benefits as well as be an advocate for students. Is it perfect, no, but I know first hand of many other examples of friends and family who teach who are very good people who have been helped by unions. And about the backs of taxpayers, I love how you guys enjoy throwing the phrase around yet I hear nothing of the multi-trillion dollar wars on the backs of taxpayers. Must be nice to pick and choose. The public education system is deteriorating because the system is set up to fail. Parents don't get involved, kids play video games all day, instead of a 20 student classroom it's now 35, all these mandates make teachers pass kids who shouldn't because they are scared of losing their job among many other factors outside of the system. Now answer this, why do conservatives like yourself liken "entitlement mentality" to liberals when it's conservatives who benefit from them far more. By the way, call me what you want but don't denigrate my wife's dedication and valuable service. I take that very personal, because if you want we can talk about it outside this forum. That's how personal I take it.

Well said P. I love the thumbs down yet no rebuttal. My wife is a middle school counselor who makes 45K a year to shape young adults minds, "Yippee". I'm truly happy she has representation if and when it's needed. I don't get conservatives mindset and priorities. You would think that they all own huge corporations the way the love to back them. I wish they would also become more educated on this whole stereotyping of liberals and "entitlement mentality". For the record, conservatives as a whole rely way more on entitlements than do liberals. So I don't know if they are too dumb to realize that their hatred of entitlements is completely misdirected.

I've been reading many of these posts regarding teaching and liberalism and bashing the two. The majority of the posts come from conservatives who truly crack me up. Always get mad at the teacher and it's union but never the insane corporate welfare that almost bankrupted this nation. And on a side note, (and no one has ever been able to answer the question) why is it that conservatives also continue to get the facts insanely backwards when it comes to who gets the most of taxpayer's money, conservatives or liberals. Because you guys are always so mad about government waste and spending. When it comes to welfare, the money is distributed at a much higher rate in the red states compared to the blue states per capita. The money goes into a pool and for every dollar that a state contributes, they in turn receive back either less or more from what that same state contributed. On average, red states received much more than blue states which is hilarious to me. Most of these bozos continue to vote against their best interests. Must be those crappy liberal teachers in those redneck states.

Wasn't sure which side were on so had to read a couple of your posts. By the way, it's not okay to refer to Tea Party people as terrorists, (as one person did before which you commented on). But then you refer to Pelosi and her constituents as communists. I guess the hypocrisy is okay if it benefits your logic. Also, people are upset about the Tea Party movement because you were nowhere to be found during Bush's time in office. All the sudden a Democrat comes into office and now your "really mad about government spending". Government spending has been too much for decades and you know that. In fact, the conservative party has grown government more than it's liberal opposition. For a society to work one must be willing to sacrifice for the next generation. I agree that true cuts need to happen to be fiscally sound including anything from entitlements to military to corporate welfare ect., but government also must be willing to let the Bush tax cuts expire. There are record profits from big business yet the middle classes wages have declined compared to the cost of living. I thought all these tax breaks were supposed to help. If those fat cats don't want to reinvest in their workers and instead continue to pile up the money then they don't get the benefits of the tax breaks. Food for thought.

Do you just make s**t up as you go. Just wondering your sources. Check this out. Bush eats babies for breakfast. Has stolen 10,000 cars for his chopshop to make money on the side, punched several clowns in the nose at a circus which led to the largest decline of clown applications the U.S. circus industry has ever seen and his farts have been determined to be the main cause of ozone depletion, ....ect.....etc. I said it so it must be true.
That's an excellent point. My wife is a school counselor who is taking a pay freeze and benefits reduction for next year. I'm truly dumbfounded by the lack of knowledge in these comments. To the people making these uneducated, negative comments need to work side by side with these so called "lazy state workers". Do it for one week and see how underpaid and under appreciated you really would be. There is more outrage with "their taxpayer money" in regards to state employees yet I hear nothing from the same people about our bloated military and the trillions spent for the two awful wars our poor men and women are fighting abroad. I can only assume they are just anti-government anything, minus stupid wars. It's just sad to me there is so much ignorant hatred pointed at people who work for the state and it's citizens to provide a better place. Damn you state employees for making billions and crippling our economy as we know it, wait a second, that was Wall Street which got bailed out to the tune of $787 billion. Once again, they get a pass because it's considered the private sector and they are the job creators. Hogwash.

You couldn't have said it better. With the reasoning of the conservatives on this site, I can only assume that the vast majority of them are millionaires. I guess it was okay when Ronald raised the debt ceiling and when Bush W. raised it 7 times. It's also mind boggling that they insist on backing the GOP when it comes to not increasing taxes on the filthy rich. Do they not realize that years and years of "trickle down" economics has not worked in the least? It's like the sole purpose of the GOP is to completely wipe out the middle class. Last but not least, it's truly funny to me how these conservatives have a very short memory. Was it not Bush W. who expanded govt. and spent like a drunken sailor. It was nice how he never added the war finances and his Medicare bills in the debt, just pretend as if the two were free, awesome. I can only assume it's just because conservatives want to oppose anything Obama proposes. Blind partisanship at it's best. Damn they're sickening.
