your right cash only sounds much more secure and processional not to mention convenient for the 99.9% of us who haven't had cash in their wallet for the last decade

I hate stores that don't take credit cards and usually assume they are commuting tax fraud, and actively avoid them if i accidentally get stuck having to get cash out of their atm to pay in a post internet eta. I recommend avoiding them to all my airbnb guests, friend and family when they visit. paying with archaic cash is a terrible argument and puts your business on the same level as a pan handler. To be blunt a cash only business is unprofessional and unappealing for the overwhelming majority

I disagree if i add the required info to my airbnb listing and they chose to remove it, i followed the law and am not concerned about boulder cc finding me and fining me for complying with a law they wrote knowing and publicly admitting will not work under airbnb system. Now i will be a good host and actually get a rental license but i bet you a lot of people will leave VRBO and go to Airbnb to avoid doing just that, although airbnb does report income to the IRS so thats a good over all win in my book

As a host of 3 years on Airbnb i couldn't disagree more, it seems very unfair to allow people to pay an otherwise un-affordable mortgage on second home in Boulder a no growth city with short term rental income their un-afforable home generates them. What happens when some unexpected economic activity causes another recession and all those second homes depending on vacation renters cash can no longer pay their bills, forcing them to sell or even worse foreclose further hurting home prices/stability and the real estate market at large. I know your selfish and want more free money because you saw an unregulated niche for the last few years and foolishly thought it would always be that way. This is just leveling the playing field between the regulated hotels and soon to be regulated short term rentals. Good luck paying those lawer fees that case will drag on forever and wont end up changing the laws. Look at sanfran, Airbnb's headquarters who has similar rules good luck winning in boulder

I dont get the issue with your first paragraph, no one is against an investor buying a building and renting out the 100 units as 1 year leases to students and the like. There is a problem when hedge funds are buying homes in boulder and renting them 75/365 days a year on VRBO because its a better return on their capital than the stock/bond market with a good amount of insurance that the assets (house) wont deprecate while its generating cash flow, very similar to holding bonds but likely much more advantageous with the appreciation they get on the home

This law will drastically affect owners who rent via homeaway aka VRBO, as listing there have more personal info and a means of directly contacting the owner to solicit an address. Less impact on hosts using airbnb as its a closed system, with no address listed, or available for the city to add to an enforcement list, only way to get an address is to book a night and ask the host. Also VRBO hosts will be obvious targets for the city if they do no list their renters license int he listing title, where Airbnb scrubs this info and will be very challenging for the city to verify airbnb listings are in compliance with the rental license required by the city. I guess the city could look at tax filings for individuals suspected of renting via airbnb without a license and look to see if they payed the 7.5% tax to the city but this would take a lot of of time and effort

common since, all room for rent weather they be hotel, motel or short term have to pay occupancy tax or the equivalent of sales tax for hotels, not tax = no short term rentals totally makes since, forces those in favor of short term rentals to vote to tax them of lose them
