GazetteOnline.com : FEMA says building library on TrueNorth site too costly

That is an excellent idea. An area in decline combined with the pending abandonment of the Cedarapidsinc buildings would benefit greatly from this form of development.

GazetteOnline.com : Iowa chooses design firm for new Hancher

Who is the fool? Class time (of a few hundred students at the very most) and their abandoned instruments would not cost anywhere near $180 million... Only a dim-wit would attempt to discuss the cost vs. benefit on those issues. There are other facilities in the Iowa City regional area that can be used in the interim as facility redundancies are already in place. You do know that a third of your tax dollars already goes to China (who holds our debt now)...that third you pay to China pays for all the other past borrowing for senseless projects like this. A fool refuses to see the big picture. We (US in aggregate) cannot afford $190 million dollar college theater buildings ANYWHERE. Your "type" is the problem. I find myself laughing at your short sighted ignorance and your sense of priority, but saddened to realize that you actually believe what you post.

Do YOU really think the original framers ever even considered for one second that same sex marriage was a possibility? Isn’t the original intent of the framers important to consider when deciding any legal issue?

You do know that no one on this board is saying the Ground Zero mosque group CAN NOT build their mosque/community center, right? Do you understand that? They are saying that they SHOULD NOT build the mosque because it offends most US citizens. Why do you liberals always miss the finer points of simple arguments? You do understand the difference between “can not” and “should not”? You keep bringing up points of constitutionality...when those of us on the right know this issue is a matter of decency and respect for the 9-11 victims...it is as simple as that. Of course that group has a right to build their mosque…however, decent minded folks know it’s offensive.

Yes, you could spend $10 million every 40 year flood for 720 years... YOU WOULD BE AHEAD, to re-work the existing Hancher building, duh. Mold was not an issue for the first 40 years and if it is cleaned and rebuilt correctly, your mold issue is moot. Anyway, humans have lived with mold since the beginning of human existence... despite YOUR concerns mold is not worth worrying about. Interesting that the private property owners can re-build their business/office spaces, yet government buildings still sit empty nearly three years later, huh? The existing Hancher building is beautiful....and your “type” is why this country is in the mess that it is in presently...this country cannot afford to build $190 million theater buildings anywhere, Iowa or Alaska....we shouldn’t be throwing money away so easily anymore.

Side stepping? Referencing a group’s website and blog articles written by supporters is not credible and does not rebut the original 9/11/11 opening date issue. You do know Cordoba is widely known as the first major European city conquered by Muslims. They built a shrine of victory to honor their conquest. Evoking the term “Cordoba” signifies victory over Christians to Muslims around the world. You say, “…Cordoba was a city where Muslims, Christians, and Jews lived together in peace.” Weren’t the Christians conquered by the Muslims to begin with..? ? You also know that Muslims, Christians and Jews lived together in nearly every major city throughout the Mediterranean? It was not even closely limited to Cordoba, Spain and thusly not noteworthy. You mention Jews along with Ferdinand and Isabella…knowing it has absolutely nothing to do with what the name “Cordoba” means historically to Muslims around the world. Funny, you also incorrectly group me in with “FOX meat puppets". I know you claim to be a proud Marxist, but your arguments indicate you have joined the mass of common Libtards found here in this forum.

Hancher is a concrete and steel structure Tear out the carpet and drywall... dry it out and put it back together. It is not a total loss, and like uni1999 states, you could dump $10 million several times over the next couple hundred years and still come out ahead. I suspect Hancher is nearly 40 years old and this flood happens once and everyone wants to spend $190 million instead of 10 million to fix what we've got? Amazing the logic.

Your link is a public relations site apparently sponsored by the Ground Zero mosque group. Common, Prof. Jeff.... you expect skeptics to believe the propaganda directly from the source? You are buying it too? To answer the questions you will not… Cordoba, Spain was conquered by the Muslims in 711. The Muslims built the “Great Mosque of Córdoba” as a symbol of victory over Spaniard Christians. Muslims today still associate “Cordoba” as a name synonymous with victory over Christianity. Interesting that the Ground Zero mosque group decided to use that name, “Cordoba”, huh? Oh, but it’s not possibly a symbol of a new victory over the US or Western culture…LOL BTW, the Ground Zero mosque group was trying desperately to have its opening on September 11. 2011. Once it was realized that this could not happened and given the ground swell of objection…the group quickly changed their story regarding the planned opening date.

LOL...why are all you Liberals so dumb when it comes to the allocation of political responsibility? You do know who deregulated Wall Street? Democrat Clinton repealed the Glass–Steagall Act in 1999, not the Republicans. The act was created in 1933 in the wake of the stock market crash and its purpose was to separate investment and commercial banking, and did so for decades. You do know who regulates the subprime lending markets? It falls under the domain of the Democrat controlled Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Dodd (D.CT), chairman, and House Financial Service Committee and its chairman, Frank (D.MA), not Bush or the Republicans. Note: Bush and the Republicans warned (over and over) of irregularities, but were summarily rebuffed as being against minority homeownership...2point still accuses Republicans as being against minority homeownership. The repeal of Glass-Steagall combined with the miserable oversight of the sub-prime lending market is what caused the economic situation we find ourselves in presently. This economic mess is squarely a Democrat mess, not Bush’s.
