I just read that story three times and I'm still confused. Why is the step-grandfather suing? The only person to blame is the one who killed her! It seems like those who were closer to her (step-grandfather)- had a better chance of preventing the abuse than strangers. Imagine a world where people are proactive instead of reactive!

When this was first reported - My very first thought was ....the mother and daughter are working together to extort money from this. I'm not sure if there is a lawsuit to be had, but I predict an attorney will appear and they will try to get money out of this situation- someway- somehow. If Presleys was stupid enough to not follow the rules and law and ask for ID- then they deserve any consequences that come their way. However, I think the mom and daughter need to be investigated."

"Bill Wade, the outgoing chair of the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees, said Congress should be regretting its decision to allow loaded weapons in national parks." What does this have to do with the story?!?!? If the guy is capable of shooting 5 people - which one died- do you REALLY think he was concerned about the law to carry a loaded gun into the park? Congress is not to blame for this, the shooter is. I understand that there may have been underlying issues, such as PTSD, but as others have pointed out there are many resources available for those who need help. The war is sad and went on way too long- but it cannot be blamed for every evil thing a veteran chooses to do. People need to be responsible for their own actions. My heart goes out tho the ranger's family.

I wonder if she is going to report the money she made to DHS- I'm sure they would be interested in knowing that she made almost $600 in one week. Wouldn't that reduce her welfare check? Oh, and I'm sure she will report it to the IRS and DOR. Right? I used the criminal check link that was posted above. Of course I have no way of knowing if the 42 year old Christina Lopez in Salem- is the mom- but if it is...whoa! Forgery, theft, trespassing, etc...

Not every policy is like that. I work for a court and see everyday - drivers who are cited for fail to carry insurance or no insurance. If the court can verify that the driver would have been covered while driving someone else's car- then the ticket can be dismissed. Usually, we see defendants who borrowed someone's car (that is insured) and receive a citation - they come in and try to prove the car is insured, but when we call the insurance company, majority of the people are not covered on someone else's policy. The courts hold the owner of the car responsible for only lending vehicles to licensed and insured drivers. Have seen where parents are cited for allowing their kids to drive family vehicles- knowing that the kid is not licensed or insured.

It doesn't matter if the car was insured- Harris (the driver) has to be insured to drive the car. If the policy does not name him, then he is not insured. Also, if his license was from another state- he may be cleared in that state to drive, but if he has too many citations in Oregon- Oregon DMV will suspend him (30, 60, or 90 days) depending on how many citations he has received in a short period of time. Another mistake people make in Oregon- if a suspension has been processed -DMV will not clear until the $75 reinstatement fee is paid. So, if his suspension cleared after 60 days- he could still be suspended if the reinstatement fee was not paid.

I wish the media outlets would report one story. Another source reported: "It was a stranger attack on another young woman in a park in Amity," Yamhill County District Attorney Brad Berry said. The victim was severely injured and suffered broken bones, Berry said. Downing was 15 at the time and was one of the first juveniles charged with a Measure 11 crime and prosecuted as an adult in Yamhill County, Berry said. Oregon's Measure 11 requires mandatory minimum sentences on certain felony crimes. Downing was charged with attempted murder and assault in the random attack. In February 1997 she was convicted of first-degree assault and sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to court records." KATU is reporting the incident left one person dead. Were there other defendants involved and a different victim died? More homework should be done before reporting the news and less inserting of little tidbits that cause confusion. My prayers to the victims and their families.
