I solved a work problem today and it was very satisfying. Also, I made a perfect omelette. And my kids and I watched two extremely adorable spotted fawns exploring our backyard. I... think I had a good day? Wow.

Not just you. It is baffling. Online everyone can see what you're saying. It's like shouting abuse in the public square.

I'm guessing there is some kind of cognitive disconnect going on where since they can't see the people on the other side of the screen they're not experienced as real people.

This is excellent advice. Thank you. I am too sad and angry about it to approach logically right now, and whoever organized this whole school awareness celebration is probably feeling good about it right now. It's not the right time for me to share this message, and it's not the right time for them to hear it, either.

Thank you. He's only 5, not really ready for understanding the issues involved here. We adults do discuss things like this sometimes where our kids can hear. We aim not to go too dark in their presence, though. It's definitely a balance.

I kept my kid out of school today because they sent home a notice saying "Light It Up Blue!" with a puzzle piece, and asking kids to dress today in specific colors for Autism Awareness. I'm all for Autism *Acceptance*. LIUB and that puzzle icon are associated with the org Autism Speaks. People who are actually autistic consider their message pathologizing neurodiversity to be actively harmful.

I don't want my kid used as a prop for anyone's agenda. But not dressing him up for today and sending him to school would be making him a prop for my own. So spring break starts a day early for him.

I know they probably mean well, or think they do. But this is not okay. I am considering asking his teacher who was behind this idea and trying to figure out whether it'd be worthwhile for me to try to educate the educators on this. Do I even have the spoons for this?

UGH.

I need woodland creature collector! So much I need it.

I too have all the toys, all the mementoes from all the cats.

Forlornly, I put Duolingo where Neko Atsume had been on my phone. But language learning does not fill the small cuteness void.

We just got it from a local flooring store. Ours is Marmoleum by Forbo. Armstrong makes linoleum too.

Check out linoleum! I know it sounds old-fashioned but it's perfect for kitchens, non-toxic, way more eco-friendly than vinyl. It's what we did in our kitchen, in a dark grey light grey diagonal checkerboard. And it's great.

I... pleasantly surprised myself, does that count? by commenting in this open thread. Instead of just reading and sympathizing and enjoying and thinking no no no I can't write things someone might see!
