NewsReal Blog : Case Closed: Barack Obama is a Socialist Working to Destroy America

David, thanks for the review of this book. I have yet to read it but am eager to get my hands on it. One of the things that will be interesting going forward is to see how Obama handles the tension between ensuring that the economy recovers sufficiently to give him a chance at re-election when doing those things are at odds with his intent to destroy the country a la Cloward-Piven. Of course there are many avenues for destroying America, some of which are not economic in form. This is a critically important story and must get widely disseminated. Those not paying attention will not believe it at first and will accuse the messengers of all kinds of conspiracy theories. Your biography provides an important testimonial from someone who has walked in those shoes..

Big Journalism : WaPo's Richard Cohen Shows His Bias And His True (Racist) Colors In Palin Hit Piece

I wonder if Richard Cohen can write for normal Americans. It seems as though he writes only for the grievance-mongering, race-baiting, victim-pimps of which he is one. Has he ever called up Sarah Palin and asked her what she meant by her remark? Didn't think so. So add hypocrite to his CV as well. The fact is there are a lot more Americans who think like Sarah than there are who think like Richard Cohen. That is probably what is bothering him. Luxuriating in obsession can be dangerous for the "psuedo-intellectual" if it is not kept in check. His warning signs are going off.

Big Government : Tea Party President in 2012

This is a dilemma and it is critical that we don't screw this up. McCain and Dole were go along to get along Senators who were corrupted by too much time spent in Washington and adopting positions for political purposes, not the other way around. We don't need a typical politician who changes positions purely for political gain (Romney, Huckabee). Further, we need someone who can really bring the house down with their oratorical skills (Ron Paul fails here). I prefer a governor because they have executive experience and secondly, they can claim to be a Washington outsider. I am thinking about Mitch Daniels, Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, Haley Barbour. I love Chris Christie's pugnacious style but I think we need to wait on him. I love Sarah Palin and would support her all day long but electability is also important. Her negatives concern me as does her relatively brief stint as Governor. I must say that the liberals did an absolute hatchet job on her putting her in position to resign as governor. They were absolutely scared sh*tless of her and it worked. I also like Jan Brewer in Arizona. It is a wide open field and that is the difficulty right now.

Big Journalism : Keith Olbermann: "Worst Person in the World"

KO is exhibit A for the rage filled, hate spewing uber lefty. He revels in his own lack of civility and centered his show around the denunciation of an ideological opponent each night. I think he does more harm to the libtard brand than anything. Caustic and acerbic are not attractive qualities and poisoning the public discourse with his contributions, especially on a cable "show" tends to legitimize that behavior for those so inclined. For those uninfected with liberal dementia, I suspect it repels more than it attracts.

Big Journalism : Hannity on Organized Left: ‘Their Agenda Is to Silence Conservatives'

No they are maintaining their membership ranks pure and simple. One of the growth strategies in liberal ideology is to maintain a monopoly on the dialogue. The less exposure to the competing point of view the more effective their libels and slanders are against a conservative perspective, ie racist, sexist, homophobic, knuckle-dragging dimwits. It is an effective strategy. As an example, there was a thread analyzing the reasons for the blow out loss in the election. One poster suggested that no one had yet mentioned racism as an explanation. In a post that was censored and never published, I suggested to the poster that if the only tool in his toolbag is a hammer, every problem he encounters is going to look like a nail. That racism exists between the ears and that his were no exception. Puff Host censored my reply. Typical lefties.

For the past week of so, I have ventured over to the Puffington Host to engage in some entertaining give and take with the standard liberals who frequent and comment on the site. One of the things that I have discovered is that when I have completed a fairly effective argument against a liberal point of view, it never gets posted. No profanity, no name calling, nothing in the least bit offensive, they just don't like the lucidity of my argument so they don't show it. That is the way liberals carry on. They just shut you up and pretend you don't exist.

Big Journalism : Open Thread: Voters Expect Big from GOP

PJ, what I expect is that the media will use every trick they can devise to make both the Tea Party and the Republicans they elected look as bad as possible overblowing internal fights when it suits their purpose and otherwise blaming both for any obstruction to the liberal agenda. Contrary to some other bright posters on this thread, I believe the media still retains substantial clout to frame the narrative that they choose and particularly for those who are not paying attention. The Liberals held Congress for the last 2 years of Bush's administration but no one from the MSM ever challenged Obama's or any other liberal's tarnishing of Bush as the singular epicenter of economic destruction. The same storyline will become inverted and the new Republican controlled House will receive plenty of liberal media scrutiny in as negative a light as can be created. Therefore they need to work with new media when available and be prepared to effectively defend their perspectives with the LSM when confronted by them.

Big Government : Barack Obama: A One-Trick Pony

Another excellent analysis Prof Rahe. I completely agree with your assessment. I think the one great unanswered question at this point is to evaluate the Republicans propensity for turning victory into defeat. The pieces are all in place for a more thorough repudiation of liberalism if the Republicans don't blow it by starting to compromise on getting things done with this President and the Senate. The media will be all over them for creating gridlock and failing to do this and that. They must resist the temptation to go McCain by courting favorable publicity. The Tea Party must remain engaged in order to realize the smackdown that is so richly deserved but remains out of reach at this moment. Fiscal sanity must remain the focal point along with a keeping the Pledge to America in sight as governing principals. Eliminating earmarks will not accomplish this single-handedly but sends a powerful message that government corruption will not be tolerated and earmarks are corruption by any other name. Republicans have been handed a golden opportunity to regain the trust and it will take a major commitment for them to earn it back. The odds of them doing so are not very high in my opinion.

Big Journalism : Keith Olbermann, A Memorial Tribute

Joe, I think there is no doubt that this is more or less the realization of a deferred decision looking for a rationale. The question becomes which motive is supreme. In the end it could be a culmination but I do like your descriptions of his position in the MSLSD playhouse. Perhaps some suits decided that despite his ratings, he's just a punk bully stealing lunch money from the other kiddies and nobody else wanted to join the club with him as the leader. Can you imagine somebody at any other news outlet running a daily segment of "Worst Person in the World". This is truly infantile screeching at its worst. And just before the axe came, he dropped the segment. Too little too late perhaps?

Come on, assembling some clips of Olberman acting like a toddler in a tantrum is like shooting fish in a barrel. He will be missed, perhaps more by conservatives for his tin foil hat-worthy blathering, but not by many. There has got to be more to this story as the political donation explanation does not pass the smell test. A child could spend 5 minutes listening to this clown and realize his broadcast was to the left of Jimmy Carter in his dotage. With the recent re-branding of MSLSD as the "Lean-forward-tip over" network, how does this suspension square the circle with that? Perhaps some enterprising real journalist will get to the bottom of this farce.

MiPain, Let's face it, the choice of Palin was an attempt to counteract the advantage of Obama's historic potential as the first African American President. I don't mean to imply that she was under-qualified for the role by referring to her selection as motivated by tokenism. But the truth is that her gender was a considerable feature of her selection as was her conservatism. For many of us, it is her conservatism that is most endearing (although her feminine charms are not inconsequential) ;>).

Arva, I saw that segment as well and thought that Ferraro was smug and condescending. Palin was respectful but the respect was not reciprocated. Contrast those behaviors with the actual accomplishments of these two women. Ferraro herself has admitted that her placement on the ticket was nothing more than tokenism and her ticket lost one of the most lopsided repudiations in electoral history. Palin, on the other hand is being discussed as a potential presidential candidate. It may have been tokenism that put her on the ballot but her dynamic personality and principals have turned her into a political rock star. If anything, Ferraro could have exhibited a little respect for what Palin has accomplished because it certainly has eclipsed what little she has done before or since her 15 minutes of fame.

Big Government : Hillary’s Date with Destiny

Prof Rahe, As for reading the political tea leaves, I think this analysis is spot on and have made the same prediction here in the Big's comments board in the past months to troll ridicule. In my mind, Hillary is the tougher candidate to beat for 2012 but I don't think the Dems are smart enough to throw Barry under the bus. Unseating a sitting president in a primary contest is an historic undertaking and the candidate would have to be more badly damaged than Jimmah in 1979. Clearly, Barry is damaged and his behavior over the next 12 months will define just how much support he has lost. I do not believe he has the intelligence or the temperament for the position he occupies and I believe he will demonstrate that more clearly in the months ahead. The question is really, what would the media make of a primary challenge from Hillary? Would they drop their hero worship of The One? It will all make for fascinating theater. BTW, I also think that the R's chances for further gains in 2012 were increased by their failure to take the Senate this year and primarily by their massive gains in the state governors races and state houses. Enjoy your columns enormously.
