the bag ban is silly, if you ask me, considering how often people reuse them. but your other examples are the result of ignorance on the behalf of the majority who voted; to vote down the stadiums, both of which are generating profits and attracting tourist dollars that benefit the local economy, was a shortsighted move by the populace. the people voting for the monorail was also ridiculous as the initial construction, maintenance and operating costs, in addition to limited ability for growth by design, was a ridiculous proposal. a train system is by far the superior design when compared to a monorail when it comes to short term and long term cost, safety, expansion, and flexibility. sorry, but a lot of the things voters here have approved and been overturned were justified due to ignorance by the voting public resulting in poor decisions.

@OdramaMustGo: the constitution has no amendments in regards to marriage of gays or straights. try reading it sometime. however, it does clearly establish the separation of church and state (the reason why our forefathers left england, remember?) furthermore, establishment of an amendment based on any judeo-christian ideal of straights only marriage would be a violation of the constitution's requirement of separation between church and state. you'd need another reason than, "because my god says so." therefore, your argument is patently false on both accounts.

there's something called "The Constitution" whose first ten amendments are called "The Bill of Rights" that applies to all citizens. maybe if SPD werent causing much of their own internal problems recently, they'd be able to focus on policing instead of retraining. even sillier is the city, county, and state's focus on catching speeders on the highway rather than serving warrants because criminals cant afford to pay fines. try going into some of the crappier parts of town and witness for yourself the lack of policing while quieter neighborhoods have police roaming around frequently. they're brave once a call comes in and packs of them are radioed in to respond to something in a bad neighborhood, otherwise they avoid those areas the same way most other people do. police operate most efficiently when they're respected by the public. respect is always earned, however SPD and their union as of late seem to believe respect can only be pinned on one's chest. if they do their jobs professionally, they will be respected as professionals and receive the backing of the general public. but so far, they're doing what they can to burn their own house down behind the leadership of Chief Diaz and a Mayor too inexperienced and naive to hire a proper chief. lead. by. example.

uh, no. it's the fact that the city leadership, especially the police, have lost the respect of the citizenry. instead of working to earn that respect back again they have decided to play the role of "spoiled brat." everyone in a position of authority should always be working and living to the standards they're hired specifically to establish and/or enforce. the only way out is to lead by example. otherwise, you lose the public's respect and the worst of society uses that to empower themselves. cops cant expect respect if they're just as thuggish as the thugs; while most of the public will just go on living, the bottom 1% will use the arrogance and repugnance of a whinging police force to take what they can from the other 99%
