KATU - Portland, OR : Protesters gather following deadly hit-and-run | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports

The pedestrian light in that location is completely inappropriate. That type of light should only be used in neighborhood/residential/school settings. Not in a main thoroughfare/expressway which 4th Plain Boulevard is. The lights in this crosswalk are small and dim and very easy to miss. If the city/ state spent money to put this light in then they should have just put in a real Red,yellow, green light (Stop Light). So in regards to the title of this article... YES- the crosswalk is too dangerous!

KATU - Portland, OR : Wash. woman describes \'absolute chaos\' as cruise ship crashes | National & World News | KATU.com -

What a terrifying experience! My thoughts and prayers to those who lost loved ones and those who are recovering from the traumatic event. Fortunately, the ship was in rather shallow waters rather than the open deep sea. The captain should be held accountable, as well as the company for negligence in training the crew on how to properly handle a emergency.

KATU - Portland, OR : Coach revives 12-year-old during basketball practice in Salem | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portla

Athletics are very hard on young peoples bodies especially those who may have not been conditioned early on to push there bodies to perform these sports. I was a active child but not involved in athletic sports until about 17 years old and decided to join the track team. It was probably one of the most challenging things I ever had done to this day. After practices, as I was walking up hill for a half a mile back to the locker room each day, I literally wanted to just lie down and thought I would die if i did. I hope that coaches could be more in tune to student athletes history and watch for signs of distress before kids collapse on the field or in the gym. There should be some sort of preventative measures. At the same time encouraging everyone to participate in sports.

KATU - Portland, OR : In a first, gas and other fuels are top U.S. export | Business | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, T

Really? Are you kidding me? (no you are not..) The way I look at it (which is in a simple way of thinking) is that we should be paying less that half of what we are per gallon for gas to fuel our cars. In this economy we are struggling to put gas in our cars to get to work to pay bills and for many barely paycheck to paycheck and underwater nearly drowning with the rising costs of goods and services. All the while we are sending a huge amount of fuel to country's that probably pay less that a quarter of what we are paying per gallon. Imagine all the jobs that would be created if only we consumers and businesses could afford the fuel. For example, imagine the travel industry in the u.s. alone. More people could afford to fly, get into hotels, destinations, the price of goods including the essentials like food, hygiene products etc. That have gone up considerably in the last several years due to rising fuel costs. Fuel prices really do affect the price of everything we purchase with our hard earned dollars in every single aspect of our economy. Imagine the money many homeowners would save and use to pay mortgages rather than losing their homes.

I am sure I will get a lot of thumbs down for this but....If the authorities are going to deport him because his parents brought him into this country illegally as a young child who had no choice, then maybe the this guys parents should be deported too...... In reality, I think this is a very sad situation... since he has lived in this country for so long, he knew the laws and should be disciplined by our laws to the fullest extent.. But to send him back to a country he has no knowledge of .. i am not sure any good will come from that.

KATU - Portland, OR : Police arrest Occupy Portland protesters | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News, Sports, Traf

Wow! really!? the occupy protester are acting like hypocrites. I hate to say it, as I agree with the original point of the protest, but now they have cost the city over a million dollars. Those dollars could be used to help generate jobs or help those in need etc. Instead taxpayers are paying to clean up there messes. They want to protest corporate greed and banks. I understand that too. But there are local citizens who work in the businesses downtown too. and if they are to dissuade people from shopping downtown (example) they are also creating a situation for more people to lose jobs if they are not allowing businesses small and large to be successful.

Feeling how cold it is and how dark it was at those hours of the night. I hope he wasn't wandering too long out there in these temps.

Good question? The flight attendants don't let anyone hang out near the cockpit! and passengers cannot standup and wait near the bathrooms at the cockpit area of the plane. let alone have some one walk up and give the secret code. I can see why fighter jets scrambled to help the plane land.... again.. where were the flight attendants?

KATU - Portland, OR : Police prepare for potential clash at Occupy Portland | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland News,

I get what the original occupy movement was all about, they made their point ,but way to many have taken advantage of the situation and now its time to go home (or go to a service that can house/help). The rest of the 99%(those of us who are working hard to live day to day and paycheck to paycheck, are going to suffer because all of the emergency services are focused on this, thus taking away from real life crime and emergencies throughout the region. Just because the protesters are willing to go to jail to prove a point , they are taking away vital services and jail space for those who are more serious criminal offenders and true threats to the community.

KATU - Portland, OR : Police: Found shoe doesn\'t belong to missing Bellevue boy | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland

It seems the mother knows much more that she is letting on. First she says she ran out of gas. Then says the child was ill and taking him to a hospital in another town farther than the one close to their home. Yet, when she runs out of gas, she leaves the little boy in the car in cold weather for over an hour and comes back and he is gone... and then she calls the police. This just does not add up. Why would she leave a sick child in the car all alone. The authorities are also saying they cannot find anyone who has seen the child (other than mother and child's sister) in the last two weeks. Now the investigators are saying there was plenty of gas in the car. I find it hard to believe that this child simply vanished. Someone knows exactly what happened to this adorable baby!! and they need to come forward and tell where he is !!! The authorities also need to make the mother take a polygraph test!!!

KATU - Portland, OR : Some want to expand protest; mayoral candidates weigh in | Local & Regional | KATU.com - Portland Ne

As far as I can see, this is not a protest. It is just a inner city camp ground. In my humble opinion, "protesters" should be out during the day (and night in this case) marching and giving speeches to send the message. All I have seen for weeks here is just a bunch of tents. In the beginning it was folks making a point, and now it seems like an attraction for those who are taking advantage.

Joe's Place Farm is great! Last year we went to Bizi Farm and it was fun mostly because it was for our daughters weekday preschool field trip. We went back last weekend and it was a zoo. We even skipped the hay ride altogether because the line was so long. We walked to pick our pumpkins and when we got back the same folks were still in line for the hayride to the pumpkins. As much as I like the activities, hay rides, corn maze, feeding animals etc; we really just want to pick out pumpkins. We will be enjoying Joe's in the future as well as trying out Pomeroy Living History Farm.

Agree! After reading this article and comments all the while I was thinking "if the dog was in a harness this may not have happened" but also think that pets, especially dogs feel their owners presence moments before arrival and if given the opportunity, will escape given any opportunity to get to the owner/companion.

KATU - Portland, OR : Freed hikers: Iran held us because we\'re American | National & World News | KATU.com - Portland New

I was happy to hear they were released. But once I heard them speaking about their experience today in the manner the chose to do so, I was feeling less and less sorry for them. It sounded more like they were trying to make a point of insulting the Iran government system, when in fact they seemed to be the ones who broke the law and entered the country illegally. I am not saying I am fan of all government systems but when you decide to enter other countries, you have to respect and abide by their laws and be aware of your location/borders at all times. Just because you are an american citizen and have the freedoms we have here, doesn't mean those freedoms follow you wherever you go. This should be a lesson to all who travel the world.

I hope this person makes a full recovery! My heart goes out to him or her and their family. It will be a long recovery and I pray this person overcomes it! Burns are one of the worst if not the worst kind of pains. I myself have been injured by severe burns in the workplace and it is one of the most traumatic experiences I have ever had. It definitely makes one appreciate life and limbs. There is so much of our bodies we take for granted. I hope a lesson is learned here resulting in extra precautions in the future of this line of work.
