I find the video very disturbing. The Islamic people seem to be targeting innocent American people. They want the Americans to live in fear of them and it seems to always watch their back in a way. The United States from the past to resent have helped these Islamic countries and it seems the return the US gets is the hatred of people who are interpreting the wring ideals of what God wants them to do. In England, the Muslim uprising is causing many problems their to. They recently had in 2005 a suicide bombing of their tubes (subways). From that the British people have been trying to segregate the Muslim population they’re by keeping heavy security in the areas for which they live on. However, the British-Muslim people have been revolting by protesting and basically harassing the British people. They have been staging protest and revolting against the police. Also in a National Geographic video I recently saw it showed this British-Muslim musician producing a song about how to make a bomb. So what kind of message is this musician sending? Instead of trying to incorporate peace in his music he is adding to the tension that is arising between the Muslim revolts. I just believe that if these Islamic people want to show their disproval about the “Western people” then do it in your OWN countries. Instead, they are causing Western people to have fear and engaging in suicide bombing and other heinous crimes against the westerners. Also the young generation of Islamic people seems to have the biggest voice of opinion about revolting. However, when asked by one American reporter where they would want to study, nearly all of them said they would want to study in America. The Islamic people are going about trying to voice their opinions on the westerners the wrong way. Where does it say in the Koran that killing innocent American civilians is the right thing to do? Well it doesn’t! When asked in a British conference between the revolting British-Muslim and Muslim followers of the Koran, the people who have spent their lives reading the Koran say that nowhere in the Koran does it say that killing innocent people is the right thing and that the western needs to be destroyed. These Islamic people are following wrong ideals and just need to take the time to see that by affecting Western civilians they are also affecting their civilians as well.
I feel that the woman and or man in question had absolutely no right to be fired just for being a transvestite. A person should not be fired based on whether or not he has been a man all his life or has had a sex change. All that should matter to the employer is that the person in question does their job and does it well. The women fired her not because she was not truly a male but because she probably had some personal hate or disgust towards those types of people. In my opinion I think it is gross for someone to do something like that to himself or herself. Some say that they are a women trapped in a man’s body or a man trapped in a woman’s body, but it still just is not right to change nature. If one looks all transsexuals you will see that they have very disfigured and disproportioned bodies. I mean if u feels that you are a man trapped in a woman’s body or a woman trapped in a man’s body then I am sorry but you have to live with that in my opinion. It is wrong to try and change nature and make one’s self into an abomination of man and women mixed together. Now that being said it is still a person’s personal decision is to do that to themselves and we as other human beings have no right to judge someone for that. We especially have no right to hold them back just because they do something that we do not agree with. I know that if I were an owner of my own business I would not let someone work just because they were different than me or disagreed with me on certain topics. To me, as long as a person is a hard worker and comes to work everyday with an attitude that gets the day’s job done, I am not going to judge you or fire you because you are different than me. In the end we are all people and all have opinions but we are not to hinder other people just because they are different than us.
It makes perfect sense that the troops returning from active duty experience these types of mental behavior. The most common on I feel is depression, which can easily be explained. I feel that they experience depression by a number of factors beyond the service itself. The first thing is that they come from one lifestyle which definitely is not as hard as a military lifestyle, so that is one big change that they have to deal with in a rather short period of time. Next, the troop has to deploy into another country and doing that is basically like going to another world. The way of culture in the Middle East is extremely different from the way of culture here back home. The worse part about that is, that the troops are constantly in fear attack from anyone and everyone. They do not know whether or not a person is just a villager grateful for their assistance or an enemy troop coming to kill them and all of his or her friends. Having to adapt to a hostile environment that quickly will definitely do a number on someone’s personality and mental health. Now, if any person in the world had to live in a constant state of fear and paranoia like these troops that are deployed in the middle east do, then they would not be anywhere remotely close to the same person they used to be when they could live free and without worry. Also, when a troop is in a foreign country that long as underdeveloped as the middle east, they probably only get to see the evil in people the majority of the time and I know for me, if I had to see that all the time, it would make me sick to my stomach and have so much doubt in humans as a whole. Then after a troop basically lives in hell for a portion of their life they have to come back to what they had before any of it ever happened. A person can only take so much change is a short period of time and even for a powerful person it can cause them to break because one can only put up with so much.
When one thinks of the most arguable point brought up, that the richer people work harder for their money, that is true in some cases but also a flat out lie in other cases. The big reason this has not been put to a stop is because the only people who are there to take care of it are politicians. Now for the most part politicians are the ones who take advantage of the system and use and abuse it to get innumerous amounts of wealth while 90 % of the entire country makes about twenty seven million dollars less than them. There is no need for these politicians who are put into power to serve us and make the country a better place for us not themselves, to have such and enormous wealth. Like how do you even spend that much money ha-ha? If there were a better distribution of wealth then a much larger number of that bottom 90 % would have greater learning opportunities. When you give such a large number a chance to better educate them and use that education then we would have an immense upheaval and many advances in our country and world. In my opinion I think that the politicians do not really give a crap about the people and that’s not secret. They use the people like they are sheep, they please who they need to at the moment so they can make a short term gain. This country was built to get away from a king’s rule that oppressed the people and did not allow them to live the lives they wanted to. This country has taken a ride way up to the top and ever since its peek it has gone downhill. What I feel is the biggest problem is that the politicians feel like the people are just stupid sheep that they can manipulate and force to do whatever they want them to do. One day the politicians are going to have to wake up and realize that they need to take care of the people because we are not as stupid as they think.
Religion, just like everything else throughout history, has its peak and the only way to go after that is down. Every since religion’s peak, whenever that may have been, it has been on a slow but steady decline. In today’s society it is no longer considered cool or whatever else people say. Today people would rather spend their time looking up information on computers or go on social networks such as facebook and talk to their friends and chat with family and such. Religion just like every old fashioned ideal is dying out by today’s modern way of living. In truth we should just accept that this is what happens. The world is constantly changing and so are its ideals and organization methods. Lets face it, religion’s main purpose was to keep control of people, make sure they had a set of morals and had a constant steady belief to abide by. Human nature requires answers to keep a great majority of us to be happy or go on with modern life. In today’s society we are more open to the belief that we either do or do not have a god, and we do not need to go to church for him to be real or accepting of us. After religion took a turn for the worse and it went against its own word, and put forth the inquisition, they have been on a steady decline ever since then. The people began to question and wonder why the church takes so much of their money and now they think they have the right to kill people just because they don’t share their beliefs. People have grown tired of what religion did to itself, it basically drove itself in the wrong direction and then once they bent to everyone’s command to change its ways people began to take it a lot less serious because they realized they were willing to do whatever it takes to please people and get them in there convent to take their money. Today we believe in the fact that whatever god we believe in will be accepting of us no matter if we pay a church for our beliefs or not.
This is a man who does not need or want forgiveness. In fact, it seems that he more or less despises the thought or being forgiven for his actions. He clearly feels bad for what he did and feels horrible that the man’s family has to live with his actions for the rest of their lives. Saying that he would give his life to give back the one he took part in taking shows a lot about his character. It mainly shows us that the person he was at the time is not the person he is now. When he did not take any action to stop the murder it was because he was a scared kid whom only wanted for him to be safe and taken care of. He was selfish as a child and that was a mistake that he realizes he made. He sees that instead of being an immature child he should have made the right choice and not have taken part in the murder that took place that night. He feels in his mind that he deserves a second chance but he does not want other people to feel the same way. In my opinion he wants forgiveness but he does not want to directly ask for it. The thing is though, the only people he wants to be forgiven by is the family of the man who was murdered. I feel this way especially because early on he says how he does not want to seek forgiveness from the way he is writing this, but it is just a way that he can say this so we do feel bad for him. Also he says he is not going to give a detailed account of how everything happened that night but he gives us very clear and detailed account of how it happened. The big problem is he spends the majority of his story about himself and how he could have stopped it but he did not because he was a scared selfish child and all that his to me is a cry for forgiveness. He may be an adult now but he is still a child inside that wants to be forgiven.
I believe that our entire life we are taught inadvertently from our surroundings to be happier in the daylight and be worry free in the daylight. Firstly, we as children go out and play in the daylight and are told by our parents that it is not safe to play outside in the dark because there is no one else around when it is dark but bad people who we should not trust. Also we see all of our friends during the daytime out and about even if we are not playing with them so we know daytime as the time when we can see our friends and the people we like and night time is when we see the people who are dangerous and can hurt us even though for most people we never see such people at night. Even as adults, we always see on the news that all kinds of beatings, murders and rapes that occur and the majority of the time they occur at night, so for us to be depressed or sad in an atmosphere where it is dark and gloomy most of the time is completely understandable. If someone has to be an environment where they know darkness is dangerous and not a good place to be in they are going to always feel like something can happen to them so of course they are going to feel bad and scared because they know that basically the majority of the time they are spending in a dangerous atmosphere. When our sociological environment tells us one thing, that darkness is dangerous and sad, but the natural environment that we live in, which is just natural darkness the majority of the time, our mind has to deal with two conflicting environments and great changes that take place very quickly. It shows well in the video because it tells us how only one percent of the population is negatively affected by the change from cold to warm where as a much higher forty percent of the population is affected the change from warm to cold, or light to less light.
The teacher that put together the lecture was a very intelligent man and argued very well all the reasons why we need to change our education systems. My favorite part of his argument was how he said that we need not to make schools factory lines that just pump out groups of kids every year that are all taught the same way. Instead we need to look at students on an individual basis and realize some are ready for life before others are and we should not judge them in a negative way because of that, instead embrace that they are different and have to learn at their own pace. Also, just because a student comes from high school and goes to work instead of college does not mean they should be looked down upon or thought of as useless compared to people that go to college and get a higher education. Doing so would enable those people to do their job better, be interested in their job and go to work with an open mind and learn more about what they are doing. Instead in today’s society those people think that are worthless or not as useful compared to people with college degrees so they become more depressed and do not worry about doing their job well. Just because a person decides that they are not cut out for a college education does not mean that they are stupid, which is what we are taught to believe, but they have their own way of learning separate from ours. Another big problem with the education system that he points out is that we are segregated and not allowed to work with others for the most part and have to work alone. From my own experience I know that when I work in groups I get a lot of work done and feel like I learn a lot better. It is also very true that we still use the education systems that were built for the 18th and 19th century and we are no longer in that age, so it only makes sense that we fix our education systems for a more modern time.
The obvious sociological message is about love. What he is trying to say about love is that while we feel that we are in love we are not always truly in love. One may get caught up in the hype at a young age and think that they are experiencing love. He is saying that he fell in love at a young age and he thought that she might have been the one. Now at an older age he realizes that it was simply young age and the excitement that made him feel that he was in love. He is basically saying that there are so many people in the world that for there to be only one person for you is very hard. Also to find that person at a young age is hardly unlikely. He goes on to say all of the ways that it is statistically impossible for her to be the only person that is a perfect match for him and him to be only seventeen when he found her. He is obviously sad that he no longer is with her, but the verse of the song goes on to say that he will probably find someone else to fill her spot in his heart. He makes light of being in love and is trying to send a message to us that we need to not take love so seriously at such a young age and just worry about ourselves and making a good life for ourselves and then fall in love when the time is right. The problem with that is if you fall in love young and it really is the one, a person might not be so keen to stay with that person or even go after that person. I feel that when a person is truly in love it just happens. It is not something that you have to try really hard to do or fight all the time about how true each other’s love for each other is. We as people need to realize that the person we are going to be in love with and spend our life with will come to us and unconditionally love us.
When someone spends a lifetime in jail, all they have to think about is what they have done and why they are there in the first place. Everything the man says that he cannot remember is stuff that was important to him as a free man but means nothing in jail. People who are still in the real world living their lives and making a living for themselves do not associate themselves with people that have murdered and have life in prison just simply because they knew him once or were close to him at one point. The only reason his mom is his only support system is because even though he messed up big time she, as his mother, does not want to accept that her child is a bad person. The reason the authority treats him as a number is because he took the life of another man and in our country that is to be seen as an irreplaceable act. To take another man’s life does, in my opinion, constitute you not to be treated as a person anymore. He should be happy that he is still alive. One good thing this man has done is accepted what he has done is wrong and realizes why all of his can not’s are what they are. He realizes the pain and suffering that he has caused his and Kevin’s family and accepts his actions as wrong and accepts that no one should forgive him for what he has done. Being in prison, I feel, has made him realize that what he did was the biggest and most stupid mistake one could make. He sees that he deserves the treatment he gets and the worthlessness he feels is his own entire fault and a direct result of his actions. The inmate has finally accepted his fate for what it is and why it is, so his has done the only thing left for someone in his position and that is to look to a god or belief and realize that he will be forgiven somewhere. I feel finding forgiveness in God is as a lifer is the biggest form of acceptance and consolation he can give to Kevin and his family, along with his family.
