Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : Stand Up & Lead - 3/24

Do you mean BUY the soda, paying them sales tax on it? That is not what the original Tea Party did. They did BUY the tea. They deprived King George's coffers of that money. If even a portion of the 600,000+ people from this site even just REDUCED their purchases of these items, we could be heard. Money talks. I'm not sure how afraid of bees they are. I do think they're afraid of us "going John Galt", even just a little.

It's easier to try to make changes on this site and its members so that's what many do... take the easier route. What's hard and scary is tackling the big questions of values and princples, debating our points rationally, trying to bring about real and lasting change. I think that's why your letter didn't get much response. It's easier to spend our time rearranging the deck chairs on this website than try to save the ship.

You have a point but I wonder if it still wouldn't be worth while to boycott an advertiser or two while we work toward a Fair Tax and Term Limits.

It was my first, my husband's first, and the first for my three daughters there with me. Others around me said the same. AND I hardly ever watch Fox News and never heard them cover it.

cabmartin-hope recovery is going well and you'll be healthy and spry for the July 4th march. You could also contact your local news stations and papers now and begin asking for coverage for the Tea Parties. Tell them you'll be watching their station and pointing friends to their website to see more IF they cover it for you. (I think views and web site hits are what they want to lure advertisers!) Be well.

When you spent that money, did you pay tax on whatever you bought? If so, you paid this government to make your protests. If we're still buying and thereby paying them for all these purchases we think we need to make, why would they care if we stand in the streets with Paul Revere hats on and signs (on which we paid sales tax)? The Boston Tea Party was something much different.

I'm going to my city's Tea Party with my whole family but I have questions about the modern-day Tea Parties and what it means to "stand up & lead". When the Boston Tea Party occurred, they threw the taxed product away, disposed of it so that the King could not possibly get his money for it. They gave up something they liked and used regularly AND kept money out of the King's coffers. Is there power in actual sacrifice that just will never exist in "protesting"? When you refuse to buy the taxed item, no one can twist your words. When you sacrifice so the taxes don't go to the government, it can't be made less powerful by the media's lack of coverage. I will be there with my family of 5. At the same time I'm considering our forefathers who actually gave up something other than time in order to communicate with King George in a language he understood and cared about... money. Am I that strong? Are we that committed?

I don't believe lIttering with rubber & latex is the best way to get attention for the message and help with the problems we face. Most of the tea bags inside balloons would never be sent anywhere anyway, landing in trees, rivers, etc. Why not skip the toxic and polluting step and just send your tea bag labels as was suggested weeks ago? Or write to representatives, local and federal. Or contact members of the administration. Or write op-ed letters to local papers.

Unless they're handing out money and favors to enough people who will vote for them on that basis. Then our votes & voices for fairness and honesty are drowned out.

We've successfully been taken off target again... this forum is about standing up and leading with respect to our principles and values, not any one policy issue. Let's get back to how we make a difference now rather than being led away from the point with these "blog bombs" like universal healthcare.

I believe one way to make ourselves heard in our country, culture and government is to VOTE WITH OUR DOLLARS for these principles and values. If you find Abercrombie & Fitch's marketing offensive, don't allow your money to be spent there. If Saks' window advertising offends you, do not shop there and let them & their product lines know. If Bratz dolls do not line up with your values, do not allow them for your daughters or buy them as gifts. It's all so corporate now that our dollars speak loudly. We have the opportunity to vote with our dollars every day.
