I agree, a few of the "good" teachers have called the other one's pigs & expressed their dismay. LOL
How the others expect students to just go back to school & respect/trust them after this is beyond me. Even if they were to go back to school, no one will learn anything. This thing they have done will not just be forgotten.
I see about 4 special needs buses up at RHS right after school & they are all full size. I'm not sure about RMS, but I'd be willing to bet it was full size as well. The picketers at RMS have been awful. Thankfully a teacher was arrested this morning for blocking a bus. The residents of the neighborhood around RMS don't support the teachers after they have parked all over their residential streets & blocked them from going to work. Fairview police aren't very happy with their immature/dangerous antics. I'd like to see more of them arrested.
I am also a RSD parent, and you are wrong. I emailed my support to every board member, they are doing a great job considering what they have to work with. The teacher's have been terrible during this strike, and aught to be ashamed of themselves. Teacher's need to be held accountable for their student's performance, no excuses. There some great teachers at Reynolds, but the ones that aren't need to be replaced. Is it acceptable in a Language Arts class to take attendance, start playing an audio recording & leave for the rest of the class period? It's happening. There's a lot more I could say, but I won't waste my time. The point is, there are more people in this community who do NOT support this strike. As far as I'm concerned the school board should just quit bargaining, final offer: take it or leave it. Summer starts now.
The school board didn't run away form anything. No one likes a bully, and the Teacher's Union is that bully. How many teachers are scared that if/when someone else does their final grades that it will finally be evident how poorly they have done their jobs? I think every HS and MS Reynolds teacher should be audited. Prove what they actually taught over the year, graded & actually posted to ESIS. What about the teachers who didn't attend conferences, or don't repond to parent emails in a timely manner? Students should be surveyed on their teacher's performance. There should be a suggestion box in every school for students to be able voice their concerns & ideas without fear of teacher retaliation.
RSD please end school for summer & let the teachers know that bullying is not ok, and will not be rewarded.
Way to go dumb dumbs! Enjoy striking in the rain, the kids are out until at least Thursday. I have new respect for the school board. One of the teacher's sticking points is wanting to know student's criminal records? The school district cannot break state & or federal laws that protect a students right to an education. If teachers had that information they could descriminate, thus opening the district up to litigation. Is someone taking attendance at the strike? If you're late they should just mark you absent, right?
RSD better not give in. The economy does not support the greedy teacher demands. Every school district will have less money next year, due to the steady decline in the state's tax revenue. Go ahead and start summer early, these unispired whine bags stopped teaching months ago. <disclaimer to the elementary teachers- you do make a difference, I wish you could teach K-12, instead of K-5>
Really? So sick of these teachers picketing & making students and parents feel unwelcome at their own school during a school event. I wonder how many people couldn't find parking for the concert tonight? Selfish teacher's don't care, it's not their kids. What about the ones who play a recording during their class & leave instead of teaching? Apparently that's our tax dollars at work. Teacher pay needs to tied to student performance.
The teachers are telling the kids that the district will be closing schools for summer come 5/21 if the strike happens. They have been telling the kids to have all their work in by Friday, because those grades will likely become permenant. Talk about a lack of professionalism. I have been disappointed with a lot of these teachers for many years. The Elementary ones seem to be the only ones who try. Once you get to middle school or high school level, many are just going thru the motions counting the days to retirement. Why do they even have ESIS? The majority of teachers don't use it consistantly. Its supposed to rain on their picket line on Monday.......hahahahah (:
Can we bill the teacher's union for the police overtime that babysitting their students is going to cost? Up to 2 1/2 weeks off for grades 9-10! Are you kidding me? Gresham school district isn't very good. I have had kids in school there before & they do much better in other districts. Their online school is just a pathway to drop out. Gresham district fails too many students every year.
