Oooo I hope the krispy kreme was nice and hot!

So my grandmother was a mild hoarder and my mother has had a habit of throwing out or selling some of the stuff I really wanted, but keeping every single-blade disposable razor, really cheap costume jewelry, etc. Recently, this one piece of furniture came up in conversation between my mom and me. It was a night stand made of porcelain and the 'stand' part was an adorable elephant. I lamented that my mom sold it at a yard sale. Well, turns out it was in the attic this whole time. However, I have not seen this elephant in over 15 years and ...it's a little offensive. I think the elephant is wearing a sari. I have no idea where this nightstand came from and I was startled to see it was so different from what I remembered. And now my mom is mad at me because it's going back in the attic.

My mom confirmed that she definitely got rid of the pencil drawing of a naked lady that my grandmother kept in her bathroom. I haven't found anything remotely resembling it. I really want a naked, lounging lady picture in my bathroom.

Ooo, industry internship sounds like a good idea, good luck! All the grad students I know who did one thought it was worthwhile. I'm not sure what industry your research falls under, but I'm looking into pharma/biotech R&D and there are a variety of jobs (not all entry level) like technical writing, science liaisons??, quality control, automation coding, testing counterfeit drugs, etc.

I graduated with my PhD in ChE earlier this year, and up to about a week before my defense, I still thought about quitting. I totally know how you feel and it is terrible. My annoying suggestion is to network extensively starting now because the job market is depressing unless your thesis is directly related to entry level PhD positions. I think it helps to read job descriptions to find out what is available and what skills are required. This gives you time to pick up new skills or narrow down what types of jobs sound interesting/awful. There are all these jobs that I didn't know existed. Doing this motivated me to finish. Good luck!!

I'm in STEM, but a labmate waited that long. He emailed the editor for an update and that did the trick.

It's the media! I think even Obama recently said something about how we need more people in STEM. STEM as a conglomerate doesn't help because there are differences in the job markets for CS and for bio/chem people. Yeah, I'm looking in biochem/engineering and it is rough.

Since January! Yeah, I contacted them once before about the timeline and they said they would contact me last Friday. I'm googling "ask a manager" now about this!! She is the best.
