Deb Rockman's work is in the Old Federal Building. As you enter the building, go down the main hall, her work is hanging in a small gallery on the left near the back of the building. You may see that her work is quiet yet powerful.

SoccerDad,
It's great to hear that parents are spending time with their children at ArtPrize.

UICA is open 5 days a week during the year with interesting, thought provoking work. Stop by. GRAM offers hands-on workshops for children every weekend. Check it out. ArtPrize happens once a year. Don't wait for another ArtPrize when we already have these great avenues for viewing art almost every day of the year.

This dialog is disheartening and the rudeness nonproductive. You don't need a degree in art to appreciate or make art. But you do need to do your homework.

If an artist has work in major museums around the world and you don't care for or understand their work, it's not up to the artist to explain themselves.

Check out a book from the library, google the artist's name, do something other than complain about how art and/or artists are 'elitist'. If you don't get it, be curious, be creative, explore, figure it out. The results may surprise you. Art is not in the eye of the beholder, beauty is. Not all art is beautiful.

Artist who have been making, looking, and reading about art throughout their lives have every reason to be upset by those who try to skate by on opinion not backed by knowledge. If you want you voice to be heard, don't attack on a personal level. Attack on a aesthetic level. Do your homework. That's the dialog we need to be having.
