nuno machado lopes : Why Salesforce needs to use Salesforce

Hi Cousin! Congrats I think... Actually "Salesforce Portugal" is now 2nd in Google Rank - wasn't actually my intention as I'm a big fan of Salesforce as a concept and company, just never fond of having to speak Spanish in order to manage my account with account managers. Have a great 2011!

nuno machado lopes : "Marketing in Social Networks is the future" - Bah!

Thanks for the link and the insight - it's an interesting perspective though I have to say that even though the point of view is interesting - Aleks Krotoski doesn't seem to have an alternative/solution - more doom and gloom. Reminds me of failed music artists that pursue the market through Passemusica claiming incoherent sums from those prepared to pay. I always find that the most outspoken of critics use the tools and the medium to voice their opinion - and actually get heard by a lot more people in the process - hypocrisy? Maybe, maybe not...

nuno machado lopes : Stop fooling yourself and leave price alone

Thanks Antonio - I get it and you are right from an entrepreneurial point of view. The problem is that most of the time, I see this as a desperate attempt at dealing with a wider issue without ever addressing it. Though some restaurants, such as Olivier, could well gain from these types of initiatives, others such as Eleven are clearly misguided as they should own the niche instead of dabbling in it. Too many times we seem to embrace initiatives without truly understanding the issues and in most cases inadequately prepared to reap the rewards, either through effective customer retention or acquisition. What strategy did these restaurants deploy in customer acquisition? What were their metrics? Was it a success? How defined? Reminds me of mass marketing and brand awareness - usually a poor excuse for a failed or unqualified marketing campaign. I really liked your site - very sophisticated...

Thanks for your comment - I am allergic to messing with price as it usually has a very short term effect, hence its allure, though it almost always hides the underlying current of problems, barriers or negligence. I believe you should only alter pricing when you REALLY know what's going on and it becomes part of an integrated strategy.

nuno machado lopes : Absolut: Killing their partners off, one by one

Thanks. Well online advertising is a paradox - those with most money to invest in advertising in our country for example are those that have the least interest to the online community. No rules = caos. I believe its the low standards people set and the little work they are prepared to accept in selling the ROI of online advertising - most probably don't know what the benefits are and who will actually gain from it. Online ads are working relatively well in States because they have better clients and better suppliers.

nuno machado lopes : How embarrassing is that?

Well there is actually a way - to blog about it and to explain to these companies that if they are hedging their bets on advertising saving their future, they better get it right. I find it difficult to maintain the same level of trust in Technorati when I have a fart machine which takes up have the page. I guess my brain has become formatted in equating farts to, well, farts. The Guardian seems to have reacted rapidly to this and have changed their ads - so this does work. One voice, one corporation and one very rapid response.

nuno machado lopes : Advertising online sucks! Ask the Guardian

well I was actually kind of joking - its not really what they thinlk of us. In fact I received the next day an e-mail from the Guardian: "Dear Nuno, I'm not sure how this got through, but many thanks for drawing it to our attention. My colleagues in advertising are on the case. Best wishes, Leslie" Its hard for them to know this - well actually it shouldn't be if you consider that Social Media implies monitoring the web. Anyway they do seem to have a high degree of consideration for their readers - if you go to the Guardian page now their ads are different - pretty impressive.

Thanks for your comment and a great question. Companies are still struggling with the whole concept of advertising and not interrupting. In this case, its a different issue - basically they seem to have syndicated the advertising locally so I guess this is what we Portuguese like to see - 3 naked butts farting. Really makes you want to go out and buy one, or three...

nuno machado lopes : Our Prime Minister: Tweeter or Twit?

Hi Keith, Thanks for the comment and sorry to hear about your business - the smoking ban like almost every other legislation seems to lose the opportunity to remedy things - instead screws them up. He doesn't really have a great team of spin doctors - he has to all effects no competition... As far as the Freeport case, well that could be a whole blog dedicated to that. I don't think Id comment as I have more to do than defend myself in court against a person who seems intent on shutting everyone up - ohoh is that slanderish?

Thanks for your comment Pedro. Though I don't agree with the fact that "Traditional media is dead", I understand your point and yes it is a shame that our politicians seem to have little clue as to the tools available to them presently.
