HGTV Dream Home : The Winner Is …

Sooooo sad when I logged on tonight and saw that the winner has been ambushed already and it wasnt my family. When the phone rang this evening at 8pm and the person on the other line hung up I immediately said to my husband ""could it be that they are checking if we are home". I threw the dishes in the dishwasher, put on lipgloss and threw on my daughters tiara that was on the table :). Surprisingly nothing happened so I checked the computer and saw the dream for us was over. It was a really fun ride and I am somewhat sad that a skiier like ourselves didnt win, but all was fair in my opinion and of course they needed to contact the winner before the 19th. We shouldnt be sore losers and bash the process and just be happy for the winners and hope that this house brings them much happiness.

HGTV Dream Home : It Could Be You

O.K. -As we are all making ourselves nuts over this house I thought I would share something funny to "lighten the load". I mentioned earlier that my husband and two kids (ages 9 and 5) all went to Stowe in February to ski and tour the dream house for my birthday. During the tour my 5 year old son slid across the carpet in the downstairs livingroom and his feet almost knocked over the end table (yikes!!!!!) . Then my 9 year old daughter looked underneath the bed in the master bedroom and yelled ,"OMG-theres rat traps under here". Obviously there were not but she was being silly because she knew how excited I was to see the house. After the tour we all went out to dinner and when my husband asked my son what his favorite part of the house was, he replied "My favorite part of the house was when I "tooted" in the bunk bed room". So.... as the days go on and it becomes painfully evident that we didnt win the house because I havent recieved a certified letter or phone call, I will always have these fun memories. Hope this was a fun journey for you all as well.!!!

HGTV Dream Home : The View From the Bathtub

I blogged earlier that my husband surprised me with Stowe Mugs from Stowe Merchantile for my birthday. The store was so great to us and the mugs were so beautiful when they arrived that I want to encourage anyone who wants a piece of Stowe to get on their website and check out their goods. Marc from the store was so kind that if this is representative of the people at Stowe-then I want in for sure!!!!

HGTV Dream Home : Super Fan Explores the Ski Dorm

This week was my birhtday and my husband surprised me by ordering from Stowe Merchantile the mugs that are shown in the Annex. It was a HUGE surprise when they arrived. So.... we then each sat down with a cup of tea and watched our taped copy of the dream house tour and daydreamed...and talked about how much we love this house... and love the furniture.... and the views etc etc. Then reality set in as my son woke up from his nap, my daughter came barelling through the door from a bad day at school and my husband got beeped back to work. Ugh, I cant wait to win this house so we can escape for longer than 30 minutes..............

Last day to register for my "dreamy house". I have registered faithfully everyday (2x) everyday since Jan 1st which is amazing because I have never done anything that consistently EVER!!. Maybe there is hope that I can stay on my diet or work out more frequently than 2 days in a row:).

Although in the pics the chairs do look close to the bed in the MB-they didnt appear that way in person. Once the doggy dream house is out of that space it will seem even bigger. Also the closet doors that are resalvaged are amazing in person. They reminded me of my husbands favorite worn leather jacket and really give the space even more character. Also, the color appears pinkyish in the pictures but in person it is a really beautiful color that is more cranberry (but not too dark). Although this bedroom is more masculine than I usually prefer, it is REALLY beautiful in person and I wouldnt change a thing.

When we toured the hours last weekend I also noticed that some of the windows can be opened up for a nice breeze during the warmer days.

The pizza place that we loved was Piecasso (sp?) on Mountain road. In fact we loved it so much that we ordered in the second day after a full day of skiing.

More "inside scoop" into the whole DH experience. Most amazing site is when you drive down Mountain road and right before you come to the back of the DH the Stowe gondola that connects Spruce peak to Mount Mansfield come over head. The road that runs in front of the house is only approx. 500 feet from the base of the mountain and there is only one other house at the bottom of the road. It is a private road that will certainly be more devoloped in the years to come but we were told that the view outside the Master bedroom would always be this beautiful as building restrictions would not allow someone to build where they obstruct your view. I hope this is true as that view is one in a million. The whole "experience" that surrounds spruce peak is gorgeous and really difficult to envision on line. We also enjoyed sitting in rocking chairs in the Stowe Mountain Lodge while the piano was being played. My daughter commented at that moment this was her new "Happy Place" and we all agreed. This was definately worth the 5 1/2 hour drive.

Hi Lissie, I did not notice any pantry in the kitchen but there appears to be alot of space with all the cabinets and island. I believe that there is a closet in the ski dorm but all of the closet doors in the house were closed to make for better access through the house. Also, I was so busy checking out the LARGE t.v. in the dorm as my daughter squeeled very loud when we walked in. (We wont let our kids have t.v.'s in their bedrooms but she insisted that since this is a vacation house it should stay). The ski dorm is a really cool room and any kid (or adult) would love it. My husband did take several great pictures while in Stowe and many of the DH (me reinacting Monica as she comment on the hood in the kitchen). We dont however have any pictures of features not on line.

Thnx BSN-To answer your question, it would be very difficult to pick one favorite part of the house. However, I couldnt seem to get enough of the view outside the diningroom and would have loved to open up the sliders all the way. I would also say that the views from the master bedroom are even more spectacular than they appear on line or on t.v. This house is sheer perfection in every way !! It is not overly large and the rooms are decorated in a way that makes it very cozy and inviting. When my husband and I watched the unvieling on HGTV I thought that that Linda crammed too much furniture in the Gathering room and bedrooms, but when you see it in person it looks beautifully done and not too "stuffed". I have been in many beautiful houses before but when you walk into this house it really feels like a HOME and I could easily imagine having many great memories with family in friends in there without it being a museum that you are afraid to sit in.

I just returned from a 3 day trip to Stowe with my husband and two kids (8 and 5). We have skiied many places (Tremblant, Lake Placid, Northeast ) but the most beautiful trails we have ever been on were on Mount Mansfield. This town could not be better-great scenery, terrific pizza and very friendly people. We toured the house and I was surprised that it was even more amazing in person (perfectly decorated and even more cozy than I imagined). As a matter of fact we saw the house several times as I made my husband drive down Mountain road several times just to get a glimpse of the back of the house. We could also see it from the gondala and while we were skiing Mt. Mansfield. My 5 year old calls this my "Dreamy House" and boy is he right as I cant seem to stop thinking about the "great escapes" we would make to Stowe and the adventures to be had. We were all soooo sad to leave Stowe and hope to return very soon!! HGTV hit a home run with this house as the location is amazing and the house itself was so beautifully done. Whoever win this house (of course I am hoping it is our family) will be very fortunate indeed!! Going to Stowe was one of the best birthday present ever!!
