Hood River News : Ludwig announces plans to sue the city

Seems like the City don't know how to manage employees. City Manager and mayor need to be replaced along with a few others. I think this will be the second time the city is sued for something similar.

Hood River News : Fire toasts abandoned Odell house

I can see why you become defensive. I would too if I was told I wasn't doing a job that I was paid for or volunteered for. Sounds like to many Chiefs and not enough Indians. I'm reminded of a quote which says " The world is full of willing people; some willing to work , the rest willing to let them". I don't make you sound lousy. I call it like its seen. I don't know if you burned the marshmallows but I'm sure you can try on the next fire. Instead of singing Cubaya here is a new one for you ; ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQlNrn90pdg I bow my head to those that are humble and do what they do not for recognition, but for commitment to a duty.

What I want ,like most people is if your going to call yourself a Fire fighter. Be one and not be a glory hound as it seems. Don't do the deed for the title of fire fighter for community recognition. Im in no way bitter and I don't mind paying taxes to support you, but Geez seems like most house fires end up burning to ground. The same outcome could have been accomplished with $3.00 buckets and a tank of water. The left over funds utilized to purchased all those trucks and equipment could have gone to another organization. (Not the library LOL) Its not enough to do your best; YOU must know what to do, and THEN do your best. -Edwards Deming

Were not talking about where you came from. It's the here and now where we do pay taxes and the equipment is there. What's the point of wasting money, getting the equipment just to look good for the community. WOW! Ellen I'm not sure what your thought is regarding a firefighters risk, but I got news for you, fire fighting is dangerous and there are inherent risks.Thats why there are those that do and those that don't. The funniest thing about your statement is if I will pay your hospital bills. Will I wont have to because there is still insurance involved along with community and 2nd you wont get hurt saving my foundation, so please let it burn it will be cheaper. Give the tax $ many back to the citizens.

Well this is not the first time they, the 38+ "firefighters" have managed to save a foundation. I expect that if they, the 38+ "firefighters" volunteer or paid are given the title "firefighter" they should do just that fight the fire. There was enough of them to hold hands, circle the house and sing Cumbayá and I'm sure there would have been an extra body to roast marshmallows. You must think because they are volunteer, there is no cost to the tax payer. If you own a home you may want to look at your tax statement. There is the hundreds of thousands in equipment. I.E. trucks, hoses, turn out gear, etc. You say I should do it, well I have, but got tired of being a parade "firefighter".

I call upon everyone to organize your families, your neighbors, your communities. And, don’t do so just once – keep up the pressure – keep up the momentum – until this is effectively dealt with. Identify and act upon meaningful solutions to show meaningful support for Law Enforcement personnel BEFORE someone else gets killed. Organize to ensure that people who will put public safety and the safety of public safety professionals at the top of the list get elected to city, county and state government positions. Organize to get more funding. Organize in support of more personnel. Organize to instill respect for others, especially those who have chosen to protect us. Organize to get the media to focus on the successes of Law Enforcement. Organize to properly fund mental health programs. Organize to make sure everyone in your community knows that crime is unacceptable. Organize to put an end to these assassinations. We have enough money in your town, your county, your state to solve this problem. What we have is a distribution problem. It’s YOUR money … DEMAND that those with whom we have entrusted those dollars properly invest them so these assassinations cease.

While the Congress is deadlocked in partisan infighting and other adolescent behaviors – wasting BILLIONS of our hard-earned tax dollars, Police Officers are getting killed. While your City Council is dinking around with proving how “right” they are, playing political football with your tax dollars … and your mayor or city administrator thinks he or she “runs” the Police Department, Police Officers are getting killed. While your County Commissioners are trying to “control” your Sheriff by commandeering, screwing around with, cutting his/her budget, Police Officers are getting killed. While your state legislators can pat themselves on the back with their token, “tougher sentencing”, “unfunded mandates” and other sleight-of-hand silliness, Police Officers are getting killed.

Right now, dedicated Law Enforcement professionals, their children, their parents, their spouses and co-workers are paying too dear a price for our hand-wringing, addiction to political correctness, unwillingness to hold others accountable and an absolute lack of cohesive, meaningful problem-solving at the city, county and state levels. C’mon, people, while I understand and appreciate the unspeakable emotion behind the sentiment, “Rest In Peace” it just sounds hollow after awhile.

Who do the Police call upon? They MUST rely upon you, me, and their communities to put an end to this. Now, dear reader, they probably wouldn’t ask, but, I have no such restraint. This is your problem; it is your family’s problem; it is your neighbor’s problem; it is your community’s problem; it is your county and your state’s problem. Putting token “tougher laws” in place hasn’t worked. “Stiffer penalties” have not worked and will not work. Gun control is NOT an answer. And folks, standing by, being aghast is, by itself, no longer acceptable. I am out of words in my attempts to express my sorrow to their families, friends and co-workers. There is no longer anything I can say that would not sound like an apology to them. We must identify the real problems and solve them no matter what the cost.

I AM pissed about this – and you should be as well! And, the day before that, it was another one in another state. And the day before that, it was another one in another state. And, the day before that, it was another one … My apologies to this officer and his family, his friends and his co-workers. I apologize because, due to my complacency as an American, I allowed this horrible thing to happen to you. If doctors, nurses, judges, teachers, attorneys, legislators, city council members, county commissioners, children, ministers or any other group of people were being assassinated at the rate that Law Enforcement professionals are, the community would be up-at-arms, demanding that it cease. And they would call upon Law Enforcement to do something about it.

To Mr. Farmer and Mr. Lane Very well said. Some people are just to quick to point the finger at the guns and not the fanatics or mentally ill. Controlling of guns is not the answer. Look at Mexico. The only ones to have guns are criminals. As one can see, thats really worked out great for them with over 34k dead in the last 4 yrs. I bet if guns were legal, that number would be much lower as dirt bags would think twice. Control of guns could be compared to the control of illegal drugs. They are illegal but that doesn't stop people from getting them. HMMM.
