The article seems to have been scrubbed from the website, though. As I recall, the lake was built about 100 years ago and named after one of the town of Lafayette's early farmers (Hiram Prince). Pathetic that Erie has destroyed a longstanding landmark of the area and that future generations will never know what's it like to live in an area that values history, open views and wildlife over tacky big box stores and gridlock. Rather than declaring this corner as blighted, Erie should not have drained Prince Lake and instead designated it as an historic landmark. It's really a shame that Erie was able to steal this corner from Lafayette, when it had so much more to do with Lafayette's history than Erie's. That said, I do think it would have been helpful for the 911 operator to inform the woman sooner that help was on the way. She should have said at the beginning: "I've notified the police and they are on their way. In the meantime, I need to keep you on the phone and ask you more questions to make sure you're safe". That might have helped the caller get a grip.
