Hi Vincent, Belfast is not part of the Republic of Ireland but the UK, so I don't really know how much the childcare cost is over there. If she's 5 she will go to school, but you might need an after school service. Again, I have no idea how everything is organised in Northers Ireland. You should look up this website for more answers : https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/information-and-servi... . I wish you the best of luck with the move to Belfast, it is a beautiful and interesting city, full of history.

Thanks for the comment, your name rings a bell but I can't seem to put a face on it... So many people went through the UPS walls ;-) I think you're right, when the decision is made and you're not going back against your will it usually works out better. It might not be easy but it is well known that moving back home is like a new expatriation! And Brittany is a lovely place, a bit like Ireland, with more sun ;-)

It's a bit complicated, but the conflict in Northern Ireland was amongst other things a religious one, between catholics and protestants. The part of the song about the cross is about all Irish people (Northern Ireland & the republic of Ireland) making peace. The song was written in the eighties when there was still troubles in the Northern Ireland but things have changed a lot since. I hope it helps :-)

Thanks for your comment, yeah Ireland is kind of crazy when it comes to property... The worst thing is the price you pay compared to the quality you get as well, whether you're renting or buying... And it looks like they haven't learned from their mistakes... We'll see what happens, but I'm definitely staying put at the moment. It's still not worth selling, so no garden on the horizon for me!!!! (I still have the beach down the road!)

Unfortunately very few schools have a canteen, but I'm over it now...I know my kids will never ever eat a hot lunch at school, yet the "eat healthy" programme they have in school encourages them to bring in soup (really, cold soup?) and leftovers from dinner (also cold I suppose)!

At least they didn't ask us to give them their money back! We found the solution though, they're taking the bus in the morning and will only go to the after school at the creche. But every year there's something new, it's exhausting to always have to find alternative solutions for childcare!
