Calling Nader a racist is like calling Reagan a communist. It's an evidence-free opinion, at best. It's funny to see Fox News acting as an arbiter of political correctness however. That must give their loyal viewers some heartburn!
I do think however, that Nader could have taken a more gracious tone on the day after the election. His comment was a little like making a negative toast at someone's wedding reception. Better if he had said, "while we disagree with Obama on many issues and will continue to advocate in the public interest, we congratulate him on his victory. . ." and saved the pointed criticisms for another day. (Actually, John McCain gave a very gracious concession speech.)
As to Nader's popularity, it is far greater than polls show. I was actually polled this year, and on the question of "who do you support: McCain or Obama?" I answered "Ralph Nader." I was then asked "who are you leaning towards: McCain of Obama?" I again insisted "neither one. I'm voting for Ralph Nader." It became clear there was no "box" for Nader in the poll. This is how the pollsters manipulate public opinion. They don't give us the option of choosing Nader, and then corporate media justifies ignoring Nader's candidacy because his poll numbers are "low."
I also agree with one comment here: Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) or some other multiple-choice type system, should be a major focus in these coming months and years.
I was proud to vote for Ralph Nader this year (now for the third time), and I contributed what little money I could. Thank you Ralph, for your tireless efforts and your love for our country. I am with you now and in the future.
