Granted, that made it sound easy, but still... How does the "formal" mobile carrier unlock system work? Someone in this forum implied they were told to just hook up to itunes after a few days when their carrier had done something. That seems weird. Has anyone here had a formal carrier based unlock performed? What happened? I mean, other phones, you get a magic string of numbers to enter and all done. I know it is not that simple on the iphone, but if we could understand that process perhaps someone could build an engine to replicate it's behavior or to intercept it's info... Just a thought. -narwhal

OK gang, a few questions.... 1. How do formal/proper mobile provider unlocks work? Why can't we just replicate their behavior to SIM unlock the phone? 2. I THOUGHT in the US, that the Supreme Court (or maybe it was actually the Library of Congress?) had decided that permanent carrier locks broke the fair use of copyrighted material concept and that carriers HAD to support unlocking--even if only after the contract was completed. Why can AT&T get by with not offering an unlock solution AFTER the contract is sufficed? AT&T will do that for EVERY OTHER PHONE they offer. Why not the iPhone? Why hasn't someone tried to sue them on this whole thing? 3. Since there is a concept of a fully factory unlocked non-SIM-locked phone, why can't we just blast in the right model number into some innards of the iPhone to make it THINK it's unlocked? aTHANKSvance all! -narwhal
