This project has been ongoing for the last 9 years. The existing contract was awarded during the Bush administration and funded for about 10 million dollars. This year the Obama administration accelerated the project by using stimulus money to move the project forward. It is not about politics but flooding. The last flood in 2006 cost 150 million and 2 lives.
