1.2 million lead, after being on sale in Japan 1 year 3 months longer, let's stay accurate here.

Nice journalistic integrity.
"if the source didn't state it, then it's not my fault" - making an article based off of a source article without checking the numbers presented is the very definition of not doing research, citing the source article not stating 2014 as your reason for messing up only solidifies the view of you not doing any research of your own.

The source article includes a screenshot of the conference, the screen showing the percentages reflects exactly what the presenter said verbally during said conference. the text on display specifically states the timeframe for the calculations.

Nice research you did there.

"If you really think I'm not reseaching my data,"
You made an article claiming Sony were comparing WiiU sales ONLY, to PS3 and PS4, then post lifetime sales data to back it up - it's clear from that alone that you did little to no research.

We're done here.

Spin directly from Nintendo for things such as missing features (hello, lack of streaming services, it's just evidence of a living, breathing system!), Miyamoto bluntly denying a 3DS redesign, and the XL releasing that same month, Outright denying a wiiu price drop, and dropping the price 7 weeks later. Nintendo defending their eShop restrictions, then removing them 3 months later.
The first two obviously to reduce impact to sales of the current system / the system in general and stop people from "waiting out" for the pricedrop or redesign, that's outright lying to minimize financial impact until you have a product in place to absorb it - all companies do it.
Then of course all the PR spin by gaming websites on their behalf, such as the now notorious, "MK8 boosted wiiu sales 666% in UK".

PR spin happens everywhere, claiming otherwise is being selectively blind.

But, going off the general theme here, your defencive and somewhat agressive attitude, the sea of downvotes for speaking the truth, and this very question which suggests, in your mind, that Nintendo never resort to PR spin, it's clear to me that this convosation has run it's course.

Good luck with the website, I hope for future articles you work on improving objectivity and spend more time researching your data, objectivity and putting effort in to articles is a rare trait in the games media these days, after all.

All manufacturers and publishers will select the best situational data to show off the best results, yes it's spin, but so long as theyre transparent on the data theyre presenting, then it's easy to rationalize.

Nintendo do it, Sony do it, Microsoft do it, every publisher does it, is it right?, not really, but at the same time, who in their right mind is going to come out, in a conference meant to bolster it's latest consoles sales, and start spouting stats for time periods that don't include it?

Marketshare can be calculated in two ways, firstly in "lifetime marketshare" and secondly in yearly, quarterly, monthly or weekly marketshare - it's still just as valid.

I'm a PC gamer, so kindly throw the fanboy accusations elsewhere, I came here to point out the clear errors in the article.
Your article centered around the marketshare being calculated from PS3+PS4 versus ONLY WiiU, that is wrong - so yes you did screw up.

I see this blatent errors and comment as such, yet I'm the blind one?

Might have something to do with the PlayStation 4 releasing in Japan on February 22nd.
Listen, I'm just telling you like it is, you're staff here you can check this for yourself from my IP - I'm Japanese, I live in Japan, I watched the conference in Japanese.

They clearly stated "78% of home console marketshare for 2014", and that is exactly what they have.

Sure, it includes the PS4 launch numbers, but they're not exactly going to pick an arbitrary date some time BEFORE the launch of their latest console are they?, the numbers don't lie, and I made a clear point, twice, of stating VGchartz numbers are not exact, but at the very least it shows that they certainly did not compare JUST PS3 and PS4 against only the WiiU.

You can flap your arms any way you want, you screwed up with your article, and you know it.

If a console is being sold at retail, regardless of how little, it's part of that financial quarters marketshare, regardless of if you like that or not, so the Wii, PS3 and 360 get included in the calculations - but I find it extremely hypocritical that in your article article, the very reason you are complaining is because you claim they "left our the sales of the Wii", but as soon as it's shown that they didn't, you complain about them including it because the sales for it are poor in 2014.

Thing is, even if they didn't include the Wii, market share is market share, it's about how many consoles have sold, not specific platforms.

During the conference he very clearly stated 78% for 2014, if you crunch the numbers (vgchartz data, so not exact obviously), for Xbox 360, Wii, WiiU, PS3 and PS4 in Japan for 2014, you get :

WiiU sold - 314,468
Wii sold - 5332
PS4 sold - 670,811
PS3 sold - 308,308
360 sold - 6808

Which results in the following home console marketshares, for 2014:

Sony : 75%
Nintendo : 24.5%
Microsoft : 0.5%

Given VGchartz tendancy for being wrong by about 7% it's feasible to assume that the 78% is calculated from their own sales data as apposed to mediacreate.

So no, they didn't "combine ps3, ps4 against just the wiiu" they combined all home consoles sold for 2014, exactly like they said in the conference.
