Miss Crystal,
Thank you for the warm wishes! It is very hard to rebuild family relationships, I agree. I hope they are able to move beyond the past and grow closer in the future. I am very excited about granny having another Christmas with us. She loves all the excitement around the holidays. It definitley stirs her mind up and I always enjoy talking with her to see what she is thinking about.

I hope that you and your family have a wonderful Christmas!

Inge'

Dementia for 2 : Just When Things Were Looking Brighter

EFH,
Thank you for your encouraging words. They do mean a lot to me! I share your fears of what I will have to endure as well.
I think that we all wonder what will happen to us when we can no longer care for ourselves. My prayer is that God will allow me to keep my mind as long as He allows me to keep my life.

Granny cannot verbalize what is said/done to her when we are gone. That is the hardest part. Trying to decipher what she is trying to tell us. While she can still speak, her mind will not allow her to verbalize her thoughts in a cohesive manner. So while we know something is going on, we cannot always decipher exactly what happened.

Thank you for all your prayers. The is by far the most powerful thing that anyone can do in this situation and we do greatly appreciate your diligence.

Inge'

Dementia for 2 : May This Never Happen Again

Tracy,
Thank you for this sound advice! I will definitely follow up on this matter. The good thing is that my schedule is so whacky that I can go and check on Granny at very odd hours.

Other things involving this incident have been brought to my attention since this has happened. It is unfortunate that this happens everywhere. I am hoping that I will not have to deal with an issue like this again, but, I probably will. Now that I have a clear plan of action, all I have to do is keep my cool.

BTW, I will be sending you some more Exodus study later this weekend!

Inge'

Dementia for 2 : The Staff of Moses

Darrel,
I am glad that you enjoyed my post! I have really enjoyed this study. I have agained a whole new insight into the personality of Moses and how God deals with all of our excuses.

I hope that I can answer your question correctly. I had to do some reading to get all my thoughts in order. I read Henry's commentary as well as Wesley on this particular passage. I did know that Christ referred to this passage in John, but I had to get the right verses.

Since the serpent had to placed upon a pole, we can deduce that:
1. it had to be a large serpent and 2) the pole had to be very long. The Bible states that it had to be seen anywhere in the camp.

So, it took some time to make this and place it in the proper place. Since the Jews only had to look upon it, we know it was not necessary that they right upon it.

Christ refers to this passage in John 3:14-15. \"
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.\"
Since it was only necessary to look upon the serpent, we can compare that to us in that we only have to believe. Also, the serpent represents Christ in that it had the outward appearance of others (Christ came in the flesh), but not the inward (Christ was without sin). Since the serpent had to be lifted up, we can compare that to Christ being lifted up on the cross to atone for our sins.

I hope that I have been able to help you understand this a little better. I fyou want to read the commentaries that I used, you can go to http://www.ewordtoday.com/comments/ and find commentaries by a variety of teachers on every book in the Bible.

Your Friend,
Inge'

Dementia for 2 : The Staff of Moses

Miss Crystal,
I also love to do research! I have read your comment several times and have done some more reading on this subject. That is why it has taken me so long to reply. I love to share different aspects of the verse and it also helps me to remember what I am reading. I do not try to incite arguments or offend, just discuss what I have learned.

Having said that, I found what you have written quite interesting. I especially liked what you wrote about the staff and rod. One of the things that I read on that subject was that the staff was a symbol of \"comfort\" and the rod a symbol of \"discipline\". This made me think of several different verses using those words and I can definitely see the difference now.

I did read the verses you used in talking about the circumcision of the son of Moses. But, I did not find any commentaries on the other things you wrote. But, I did go back and read Arthur Pink's book \"Gleanings in Exodus\". He has a lot to say on the book of Exodus and it is a really good commentary. I can't remember if it was Henry or Wesley that said that because Zipporah was a Midianite she may have resisted the whole circumcision and that Moses may have indulged her. This may or may not be so, the Bible doesn't say. Pink seems to think that this along with her words to Moses, may be the reason that Moses sent her back home.

What Pink does say that I also agree with, is this: \"Nevertheless, it was Moses, the head of the house (the one God ever holds responsible for the training and conduct of the children), and not Zipporah, whom the Lord sought to kill.\" Even though Moses was chosen by God and was being sent on a divine quest, he had to first get his own house in order. Moses was not qualified to go any further until he fulfilled this one thing.

I look forward to reading more of your very insightful thoughts and having more interesting and thoughtful discussions!

This has been really fun and I love to come across people that make me think. You are such a person and I am glad to know you!

Inge'

Dementia for 2 : Does God Understand Why I Say Such Things?

MC,
Thank you for the encouraging words! Isaiah is one of my favorite books in the Bible. You are right on about her memory. I never even thought about it sticking with her. My only concern has been for her at the moment.

How ironic that the verses you mentioned are the same ones I have used to comfort others that are in mourning or concerned about their loved ones. God is good!

Inge'
