True, but then the parents can be identified. This way they can't. I completely agree with you and am thankful we have "safe locations" in our society to drop off kids!

I don't know all the facts so maybe there is a logical reason these kids where there but my first thoughts are.... Yah know... This is super sad, but at least someone had the decency to abandon them, instead of kill them, which seems to be what is happening a lot lately! I hope they get warm food in their tummies, a nice bed to sleep in and lots of hugs.

I agree with you on vouchers and/or charter schools etc. Teachers actually have limited power regarding what they get to teach in the classroom, how quickly they need to teach it, etc. I very much understand how multiple parties are frustrated with the education system. I have always been a believer in public education and still believes it holds they key to educating the future society. In the mean time, I have pulled my kids from public school, because of all the problems impacting teachers and students. It will be intersting to see what will happen with the adjustments to NCLB, which caused a lot of mayhem.

Smerking Love the name! Putting that aside, I am not a teacher in the district. You are welcome to your opinions but are incorrect when you aim them at me via the word "you".

KRAMR: I am in absolute agreement that the union makes is very hard to fire poor quality teachers. This is a major frustration, I am sure, for many district administrators and teachers that witness this frustration. In reality, it is the whole system that is screwing over kids, not the individual teachers. The system also contains of poor administrators, an embarrassing low about of academic days, large class sizes, and a horrible way of helping support students that require additional support (talented and gifted or special education). I am pro education because I believe how our future society in America will act depends on the quality education received now. I know there are some great teachers in Reynolds, just like there are in other districts. It is a shame those teachers are being cast in a negative light.

First, I will not "argue" on a public comment site. Second, I don't spend a large amount of time on the comment site. From your comments, I can infer you are not pro union/teacher. I do not believe the union and individual teachers are the same. I believe we have too many great teachers in the system. Reynolds has not had a contract for over a year. Many teachers do not care about the pay increase, at this point it is a mute issue. Most teachers did not begin teaching for the money, as America does not value education highly enough to pay teachers at a rate that matches many other industrialized nations. Advocating for kids equals lower class sizes increase in academic days a firm plan for student discipline safety plans for students returning to school post discipline appropriate support for students on IEP's or 504 plans The list can go on. My simple frustration is that all the media seems to report is "PAY". Teachers will lose money by going on strike. Our future society needs quality education...

This strike ISN"T even about the money (i.e. teacher raise), which is ALL that KATU is presenting as the argument. I sure wish the media would present BOTH sides, and focus on the many ways the teachers are advocating for the students. Reynolds District contains a student population that really needs to attend school, for a variety of reasons. I am sad for all those teachers and students impacted by this strike.

I agree to an extent. If the student population in a class changes drastically over the school year, that is not the fault of the teacher or the teacher's ability to teach. Reynolds has a VERY mobile student population.

Yes. This is absolutely happening. The Outlook just published an article written by a woman previously on the Reynolds School Board blasting the way the school board is handling the situation. This is one of the first articles, of many, I have seen sharing both sides of the negotiations. Many letters have been sent home to parents that appear to be one sided in nature.
