Progressives are too dumb to realize that, no matter how smart they are, they just can't make the state operate as efficiently as a free market and a free people. The pity is that these obese people are just doing as they were taught; the government will take care of you, you don't need to learn, you can do whatever you want without consequences, and you can always blame someone else for your problem because it is their fault. The problem is not welfare, its statist welfare. Its creating a group of people who do nothing but collect welfare; for whom welfare is seen as a right and not a handout. The problem is creating a group of welfare recipients so that their votes can be locked in. Helping the needy is one thing, welfare statism is another. And the Alaska cash for oil program is not welfare, its distribution of state oil revenue to state citizens, all of them. What, you would rather have a few rich sheiks in Alaska.
