Well, I don't know if Sarah Palin is the epitome of goodness -- I don't think it's a good thing to hunt and kill innocent animals for sport -- but I agree with you that the reason that Palin is so despised by the left is her position on abortion. "Abortion rights" are sacred to the left, especially liberal women. I am well-educated and went to an "elite" school and when I tell people I am pro-life, they look at me as if I have two heads.

I am a Christian and I think this is more pathetic than anything else. As my grandmother used to say, "consider the source and bless them." On another note, I wonder why stunts like this are considered "art." I was at the Philadelphia Museum of Art the other day, where I saw a painting called "The Annunciation" by Henry O. Tanner. It was so beautiful and awe-inspiring that for a moment I was speechless. I thought the purpose of art was to inspire, teach, and yes, provoke, but this piece of "art" seems like it was "created' by a nasty 7th grader. Sad.

I'm strongly pro-life and I don't have a problem with gay people adopting kids. I'm a social worker and just from my experience it seems that gay couples are more willing to adopt special needs children (older kids, those with multiple handicaps) than straight people. Thanks for your post. I too am one of the few black people who does not like Obama - a "five percenter." I usually keep my mouth shut about it, but I will say it -- this guy has NO IDEA what he is doing. And if he fails (and it looks like he will) this country will not elect another black (or half black) president for 100 years!

How about "Sounder," a film about a black Southern family that perserveres while dealing with poverty and racism in the segregated rural South. Never preachy or heavy-handed, the family is shown as strong and loving. No gangstas here. Same with "When We Were Colored," a movie about a Southern black middle-class family on the eve of the civil rights movement. And don't forget "Amazing Grace," about William Wilberforce's fight to abolish slavery. The strong religious faith of the characters -- the song "Amazing Grace" was written by a reformed slave-ship captain -- is a focal point of this excellent but often overlooked film.
