When I was in the military, I had to memorize and be able to recite the general orders of a sentry and various other things like the chain of command, etc. etc. Maybe the politicians, should have to memorize the constitution and declaration of independence before taking office?

I would just like to say:
To all those that think this is a place for Republicans, aligned with a party and its ideology, you're missing the point

It's about the principles and the values, so can we all please stay focussed, and we can effect positive change in this beautiful, wonderful, and free republic, through our democratic elections, in the spirit of liberty!

I think you capture the true spirit of the 912 project, right there. Thank you!

No insults, no parties, just principles and values. I love knowing that I'm not alone!

What about a free market approach to government help, where organizations help people, and people have a choice of which organization to be part of, and the market tends to increase the size of organizations that do well, and shut down orgs that don't work. I'm all for gov. being out of it altogether, but it would be a step in the right direction. With no one to compete with, the government doesn't have to worry about how well it is doing, or how cautiously it is spending its money.

Here here! I actually finally agree with you about something, kind of.
I'm for Ron Paul's non-interventionist movement, which is totally different from isolationist. The founders wanted us to be friendly with all nations and non-interventionist on their internal affairs for a reason. It's none of our business what other countries are doing internally, and we can't afford to be the "world police" anymore.
Why do we still have a debate about Cuba? Communism? What about, oh, say, China? Human rights issues? What about Saudi Arabia? It's hypocritical in the extreme. . Why do we still have troops in South Korea? Why did we invade Iraq (which does violate the Geneva Convention, people can read it themselves if they don't think so)? Why do we support Israel? Would these countries not sell us their oil if Israel wasn't our buddy? Is spreading democracy our responsibility? Is it working? Really? Should each nation not take care of itself?
Wake up, people, it's costing us around a TRILLION dollars a year to do this, and we're BROKE!

If you thought those were conservatives, try again. It's the Republicans that are losing power; conservatism is still alive and well, and it'll come back. That's part of what this is all about: true conservatism, which means more liberty for the individual, and a natural distrust of the government. How could the party that started two wars, increased the size of government at an unprecedented rate, and gave more power to the federal government claim that it was working with conservative ideals? They sold us out, now we're looking for new leadership and true direction.

Thank you, that was perfect!

I'd like to add to that: information can't hurt you. If you are confident in what you believe, never be afraid to hear out other people's ideas. They can't hurt you, and you can probably defeat their point of view with logic and reason.

Since this forum is about the values, I'd like to say that Thrift is the one I choose to work on. If you're into the Austrian School of Economics, you know that spending money on useless things only takes the economy further down, and our country is hurting right now. Make everything work as long as possible, buy things that last, invest in your and the country's future, learn how to fix things, buy things that can be fixed.

Let's talk real and effective change, at the individual level; let's fix America, let's keep this country great!

But it's not even while the 2nd amendment stands, it's for all time. As the article points out, it is our right at birth, inalienable; no one can take away such rights.
