g+ also verifies via cellphone ! So to remain anonymous on g ! you'd need a disposable cell phone and choose a pseudonym ! and it would have to look like a real name ! and wasn't Harvey Keitel or Mel Gibson or something obvious like that !

...and there have been some truly crazy people out there that have driven for miles to the doorstep of someone they had a flame war with, and murdered them. Anonymity allows the public to comment on hot topics without fear of the crazies. Besides, if you get so worked up about what someone's said to you on the internet that you feel you have to reach out and punish them then maybe you're taking them a little too seriously. Also, the more open you are with your real name, the more of a target you become for identity theft.
