Well written response. I wish people outside of the school system could see it the way we do. We are not teaching Ward and June Cleaver's kids anymore.

I am going to expand on what you wrote. Kids in the classroom today have no work ethic. Many that I talk to tell me that there are no expectations to work at home. We are raising lazy children and it can be seen in the homes, in the classrooms, and eventually in the workplace.

Thanks for the information. I knew it was acceptable on an occassional basis, but these pages do not make any such stipulation. There is a daycare union and I know they are the ones fighting hardest against unlicensed daycare providers. I wonder if they are in the business of scaring people out of FFN by manipulating the provisions of the law.

No, I pay her out of my own pocket, I just can't claim my daycare expenses on my taxes. I found out that she was breaking the law because I volunteer for an advocacy group and it was brought to my attention through another family's case. My daughter is the only one she cares for, so she has no need to get licensed. She's just doing it as a favor for me.

The first daycare I ever took my children down was wonderful. We loved the couple that ran it and their love for the children was sincere. Then they lost their license because their teenage son had molested two of the girls in their care. Forced to find another licensed care provider quickly, I placed my children in the care of a woman that left bruises, prompting our pediatrician to test for anemia because they were simply unexplainable. My husband and I decided not to use daycare anymore and swapped schedules to make sure we'd never have to leave them in the care of strangers again. Fast forward many years to 2012. My daughter stays with a very close family friend during the day. This friend loves my daughter and treats her like she is her own. The friend works at our church and has passed several background checks, plus she has daycare experience. My firend is breaking the law. The wonderful State of Washington has decided it knows what is best for my children and unlicenced care providers can be fined $100 a day. Apparently the SOW thinks it is better able to determine where children receive quality care. Hey WA, stop telling me who best takes care of my kids!

I can't imagine that this man deliberately put his son in harm's way. While life jackets should have been worn, have any of you considered this? It was a very chilly evening. Perhaps the life jacket did not fit over the boy's coat. I wasn't there, so I can't say either way. I'm also not supporting the decision not to wear a life jacket. I just know from experience that you cannot fit bot on a toddler, especially if the life vest is one of those zip up ones. It's the very same reason why my daughter never wears her coat when I buckle her into her car seat, regardless of the weather.

Sad but true. I work with children that have severe emotional and behavioral disabilities and almost always the problem can be traced by to their dysfunctional/abusive/neglecting parents. We call them products of their environments and provide all kinds of services to help them. Then when they become adults we want to label them evil and lock them away forever. This will not changes until we stop giving parents the opportunity to screw their kids up, over and over again.

By "them", what do you mean? Italians? Greeks? The French? All very easily fit that description. I don't know if I am more appalled by your comment or the number of thumbs up you got for it.

My twins were a combined weight of 15 pounds and I looked like a circus side show. Yikes!

She got hit on the highway. The speed limit there is 50mph. Any sober driver could have hit her, and assuming they know each other is ridiculous. I drive that exact piece of highway 6-7 days/week. It could have been me that hit her. You know what they say about assumptions.
