I was so frustrated with DS that I didn't care who won. I hated so much about the show last year that I said I would never watch again. But when I heard that David was mentoring the contestants, I decided that I will give it one more chance. Things I still don't like about this year are: no viewer vote for the winnner, only for an online show; no Clive Pearse; still the same 3 judges that were awful last year. Things I don't want to see: abstract challenges; bickering and backstabbing drama in the residence; carrying their suitcases to the elimination. You'll find a few remarks with "Design Star rocks" or something else very generic but positive. They never say anything specific about the show, or why they think it "rocks." Those people seem to be going for getting their remarks on TV. Last year DS had huge ratings, and it was listed on the top 20 cable shows of the week. Each week I've been looking at the same list and don't see DS on it yet. Paige, a Broadway musical actress, performed a fake, comedy "striptease" at a Broadway charity event. It included male performers getting donations from the audience and putting the dollars in her waistband. Unfortunately, some tabloid published a picture of the performance, falsely saying that she actually stripped. BTW, Paige wasn't the only one to do this type of performance at the charity event. Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith from Cheers & Frasier) did the same type of performance. And Nathan Lane did his own version, with people sticking the money in his bathrobe pockets. The only previous winner not on TV is Jen, but that was her choice due to her special needs child. Last year HGTV saw the big interest in Antonio, and thought that the "drama" involved with his pick was what got people interested. So they went for more drama this year. But what they failed to consider that the "drama" over Antonio ultimately came down to what people felt about his designs, not his agressive personality and unusual (for a TV designer) look.
