I have one of those 'essential' jobs you don't get to stay home from because of snow. I'm packing a bag for my nightshift tonight and I don't plan to be leaving the workplace until Thurs. Just in case. Garf.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Man wanted for car thefts arrested in car with paper plates | Crime | Capitol Hill News

Crime, even stupid crime, just seems like so much WORK to me. Wow. All that energy and fuss, leading to a jail cell. Much less stress to go to work, and then crawl into my comfy house. Running around making photocopies of license plates, stealing stuff, evading the cops (or not), obtaining the next drug dose, fighting, getting arrested- wayyy too much work for me.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Casey Anthony acquitted of murder in death of daughter | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking New

I served on a jury on a difficult, complex case. The decision was difficult for many reasons. We had to evaluate all the evidence according to the law, which the judge instructed us on. It required a lot of thinking and sifting and discussion. It was really hard work. When we got done and were out, a friend handed me a collection of media coverage of the case, which I has been completely unaware of ( natch), and boy was I shocked. The news coverage was so crazy. It was blowing stuff that was of no importance way way out of proportion, ignoring real stuff infavor of crazy theories that had nothing to do with any facts whatsoever, and seemed actuay to make things up out of thin air. They were trading on people's emotions to get ratings. If we had had the media's version of the whole thing to decide with, a really serious error in justice would have been committed. It would have been a travesty. So ever since I have mistrusted media coverage of these things. It has no relation to reality. They get amlot of stuff wrong and write stuff that isnt right. The jurors did their job according to the law and the evidence, and if you were not there it's silly to get all lathered up over crazy media coverage of the trial. I hope I never have to serve again. Some of us needed counseling after hearing some of the things we had to hear.

So fascinating! Glad the weatherfolks were safe in their shelter. But still, even as I am fascinated, I am appalled at the loss of life and property. What are we doing wrong? Do we need a federal program to build shelters on every block, or a complete overhaul of the warning system? Or both? Clearly we are not doing enough to project the people in the Midwest. This is simply unacceptable. Strongest sympathies to those who are suffering from their losses.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Motorcyclist killed in crash | Kent News

So , so sad to read of yet another motorcyclist death in the area. There are more motorcycles than ever on the road these days, as fewer young people can afford cars. Regardless, squid or not, those of us in vehicles need to humbly realize we hold the lives of others in our hands each and every time we get behind the wheel. This is a sacred thing, really. I speak as a driver who once made a mistake that fortunately ended well but could have so easily been a terrible headline. Assume every driving action you take is going to potentially hurt someone and double check before doing it. Somebody is not going home tonight, and while the exact way things happened is unknown, drivers have to watch out for safe and unwary motorcyclists ( and bike riders, pedestrians- and other drivers) alike. They all die the same. Condolences to the family of this person.

Your whole post is impossible to read. What phother said, plus it's spelled "veil". Gosh, it's almost as if English is your second language or something.
KOMO - Seattle, WA : Detectives: Murder motive may have been video game fantasy | KOMO News | Seattle News, Weather, Spor

You are as mentally ill and as unable to separate fantasy and reality as the suspect if you can make this sort of crazy leap in logic. This guy is one if the rare mentally ill people who ended being violent. He would have done it in any point in civilization for any reason that set him off. Blaming video games and calling them 'satanic' is lazy minded, unproductive, and does nothing to get at the problem: someone who is seriously mentally ill lost his marbles and committed a horrific crime against an innocent. No, this is not a sign of the 'end times'. Get a grip. People have been committing horrific crimes since the dawn of time. He needs to be locked away from the rest of us forever. Treatment of his illness would be good but he should still never be out. Very regrettable he did not get help before he did this- perhaps he could have been diverted. Perhaps. I am very very sorry for the loss of this precious girl. My thoughts are with the family.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : FAA: Pilot should\'ve known about restricted air space | KOMO News | Seattle News, Weather, Sports,

The 911 system in Pierce C. got a free stress test before a REAL mass emergency occurs- they better fix it fast before the next earthquake, volcano, 100-year windstorm, etc. That failure may be the real big story here. Pilot should have his license suspended and a fine. Although this sort of minor restricted airspace intrusion happens quite often- if not for the sonic booms (which I am sure the F-15 pilots had a jolly old time about later over a beer) this would be a two-sentence story nobody even noticed- there's no excuse.

I love sonic booms, surprised to hear them here but figured it had to do with airspace security while the prez was visiting. Thanks KOMO for the fast explanation. I was awed back east by the sonic boom of the space shuttle landing- that is a double boom just like the second jet today but not as loud. Those jets were really close! Awesome!

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Shooting leaves man critically injured | North Seattle News

Northwest Hospital is unequipped to handle major truama such as this gunshot wound. Harborview is the only Level One trauma designated hospital in the area, and the only one that can safely and sucessfully treat these patients. The relatively small difference in transport time does not affect their outcomes. This area has been deteriorating lately, and seems to be a satellite gang turf. I stopped going to Home Depot in the evening some time ago, and think twice about daytime visits too. I hope the police can manage to increase their presence here, the last thing the local businesses need are more people avoiding them. more and more.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Woman pleads not guilty in fatal hit-and-run | KOMO News - Breaking News, Sports, Traffic and Weathe

I hit a man with my car several years ago, on the James street off-ramp not too far from where this accident occurred. I was not drunk- it was an accident I tried to prevent. But I was responsible. It was very low speed, and I stopped instantly and jumped out of my car and got down on my knees in the rain and put my hands on him and spoke to him and tried to help and cried. The police came and medics came. The man was taken to the ER. I recounted exactly what had happened and witnesses verified. I thought I would go to jail, and was ready to do so- it was my responsibility- I was the driver. Curiously enough, it was determined I had not performed a criminal act, as I had tried to prevent the accident, was not impaired, and had stayed. I was given a citation and I then drove to the ER and visited the man. By the great grace of whatever almighty you care to name, he was unhurt except for minor bruising. I went to my mom's and cried some more, and the man went home with his life and health, and my insurance paid him a decent amount. I learned from this and modified my driving to make sure the chances of this happening ever, ever again are as low as possible. In particular, when I use that off-ramp, which I must continue to do to get to work - and believe me it took an act of will to do so again- , I watch very carefully for people walking or crossing the street. I know many of them are homeless, and may not be as careful as they should be for various reasons. Nonetheless, I am operating a heavy, powerful vehicle and their lives are entirely in my hands, and I am their keeper as long as I choose to drive there, or anywhere for that matter. I am 100% aware of this each and every day- it is actually a sacred charge. NEPHEW- this is how you handle it when you are driving and you hit a pedestrian. It goes without saying you don't drive drunk. But drunk or not, you don't leave the scene. You have insurance. You offer aid. You stay, and you speak honestly with law enforcement. You take responsibility, and you live with the consequences, whatever they may be. I am not perfect, but I tried to be the best I could be in a bad situation that I caused. Your Aunt failed on all counts. Learn from this.
