There have been so many things discussed in that class I do not even know where to start it has been such a long semester. That is actually what I like most about the class that you never know what the lecture is going to be about. One of the most lectures that stood out to me was one of the first lectures that talked about the issue between using the term colored people and people of colored. This lecture stood out to me because it made me realize how so many people never really looked into racism as much as did in that class to even know the difference between those terms. That really interests me because I thought more people were more aware of situations like that. There were many other things discussed in class that interests me as well. For instance, when we discussed Islam, I never knew that much about them and their religion, the way they felt about the U.S., and many more things about them. I also didn’t know all about the war and disturbance occurring there. I really started to look more into things after this class and the discussion about the different aspects with each race and how Sam wants us to notice everything and except it. Just as in the discussion about how we should notice some one in a wheel chair and actually acknowledge the fact they are in the wheel chair. I understood how Sam wants us to except every thing in society and speak on it if you want to with who ever. After that discussion I just look more in to things and notice how race really is a huge part of our society though we try to look pass it. People also easily judge and mainly because of race. That is how stereotypes are formed as well. This class just opened my eyes to things that I never really focused on before and that are what I enjoyed about the class. This class was truly informative and I have learned that I should be more aware of race and ethnicity for my self and welcome new things and people. Also the small discussions are good because after being in the huge class it was good to talk to each about the different things in class. The class was good to hear other people opinions and how they felt about the different topics. Also being in the small groups it allowed us to see how we all connected and felt in similar or different ways. This class did teach me a lot and open my eyes to many different things. It was very enlightening, informative, and unpredictable.

I feel as though interracial relationship / dating is positive thing in society. I feel as though you can not generally speak on “why a white girl may not want to date or have sex with a black guy and a black guy may be not want to do the same with a white girl and same for a black girl towards white guys” directly. I feel as though you cannot speak on it directly because that is not for every specific person. Also this can go towards every race included into the question as well. People may not always go towards dating outside their race because there are so many stereotypes and may just be uncomfortable for people in some people’s words “to go outside their box”. People look for people that they have a lot of similarities with and can have mutual understanding, and because of that people feel as though they should just date their own race. But reality is that everyone is different no matter what race and any one can have similarities. People would never know unless they take that chance. Some people also look towards the different culture, which can be a barrier towards dating outside their race or religion because they would have so many different values, though it would be up to you if you accept that. People look towards their image they do not want to have much attention drawn towards them or have comments made due to stereotypes. Stereotypes can really influence the way you may feel towards dating outside your race or religion. Families can also become a barrier as well because some people do not want to become an out cast or respects what they might think. This can also go with parents because they may not accept their daughter or son date someone who is not their race or religion. But I feel as though during this time in society it has become more common for people to date all different kinds of people. Many people are becoming more open and I feel as though that is a good thing now in our society. It shows that people are accepting everyone for who they are no matter their religion or race. I think that the most common barrier is that the person does not want to be judged by their parents, friends, family, and most of the community. Though people should do what ever they feel as though would make them happy. It should not matter what other people think about your own life. If you really want to be with the person no matter the race or religion then do as you wish. I feel as though it is a good thing.

Many immigrants travel over their border for many different reasons. They can be escaping from something, feel as though that they can receive a better lifestyle, and want that freedom that the United States always advertise. These things can be very beneficial to these people that illegally come from there own countries. It is amazing that we have so many immigrants that live in the United States. They just want that different life style that the United States brings to their civilians. Many immigrants move with other people whether it is with their family already in the United States or people who support their decision. That shows that there are some people who believe that it is all right to help people moved here to the United States illegally. Having the United States so free I do feel as though there is a solution to the immigrants entering the United States. One solution I feel as though would be effective is to have a headquarters that welcomes immigrants to enter the United States with a certain documentation. The documentation can be from the place where they are leaving from or from a person provided already in the United States. For example if a father is already in the United States and has been there for a while working there. He can get the proper document and help his family arrive in the United States legally. It is clear to me that many people do not like illegal immigrants coming into our countries but there is always a solution to make everyone happy. As I am reading this article on immigration, I see that they have made new laws for differed action towards immigrated. This is what really stood out to me, “a new and very important policy of Department of Homeland Security (DHS). This policy will help a large population of young illegal and undocumented immigrants who came to the US under the age of 16 to get legal status in the US. Undocumented aliens who meet the requirements listed below will be able to apply for a legal “Deferred Action” status for two years (subject to renewal) and, importantly, for employment authorization. Deferred Action immigration policy also requires the government to stop removal proceedings of eligible aliens and prevents the government from initiating deportation proceedings against them.” The requirements are as well “1. Arrived in the United States when they were under the age of 16;
2. Have continuously resided in the United States for at least five years prior to June 15, 2012;
3. Were present in the United States on June 15, 2012, and at the time of making a request for deferred action;
4. Entered without inspection before June 15, 2012, or lawful immigration status expired as of June 15, 2012;
5. Have not been convicted of a felony offense, a significant misdemeanor offense, multiple misdemeanors, or otherwise pose a threat to national security ; and
6. Were under the age of 31 as of June 15, 2012.
7. Are above the age of 15, unless in removal proceedings.”

Rape and abortion has become a big issue in our society over many years. People try so many times to remove the option of abortion for any woman no matter the circumstance. As a woman I feel as though that we should be entitled to any decision towards abortion because it is our body and we are the one conceiving the child. Generally it is men that is trying to remove the option of abortion which is extremely astonishing to me because they have a will never be in that situation unless like Sam think of it as if they were his wife, child, or sister. I personally feel as though if a woman was raped she should have the right to get the abortion if she was impregnated. It can be a very depressing moment but if that is what she would want to do then she should have the right to make that choice. Yes, abortion has a it more into in to it based if it is on other people religion or just a general persons morals but that is up to the person to decide what they really want for themselves. Sam said a good example in class that generally when people come to making a law towards abortion that you have to think of it as if it was your own family. You cannot think of just any woman getting an abortion it would not have as much of an effect. I truly believe that it would make a difference if they thought about that decision on that aspect. It would make more sense oppose to just thinking of these women from all over the world. Rape is such another issue that there should be no other question if a woman wants to make that decision for abortion. If the woman is raped it deeply takes things to another level within it self because the woman was not impregnated on her own she was forced into the situation and that makes it unfair for her not to make her own decision. Them even making a woman that was raped not allowed to have an abortion are unfair. That society should be mainly based on fairness. If the society is based on free will then that should allow them to make whatever decision they need to make for their personal self. Incorporating rape into the situation of abortion is very depressing because of the circumstances of rape. The women in that situation should have so many positive accommodations because of the unfortunate experience. Which will allow them to have their free will and do what they want to do. So I do think that they should have abortion for that simple fact of being in those different circumstances.

Actually I feel as though that little act towards the guy keeping his phone to prevent slaves from doing less work is not making much of a difference. He is just one single individual, if it was a huge community doing the same thing that would make some what of a difference. But I feel as though the main thing that would make a difference is when stopping the company that is making these people works as slaves. Though a community may do the same thing as that single individual, there are still many people who are doing the opposite using these different merchandise, making these slaves work. To also make a difference people need to speak up on the issue and what s wrong. The guy is doing a good deed not purchasing new phones to benefit the people making them but he should get other people to do as he is doing and actually speak towards these people in charge of the company. Before this class I never knew that there were still a form of slaves that make all of the different merchandise for people all over the world. I knew that there were factories of different people working for little pay and making things that are sent or traded all over the world but it never a cured to me that these people are slaves. It actually saddens me that people are still treat as such and people do not seem to do much to change what it is that is happening. I do feel as though more so in the future people will start to make the change for these slaves working in these many companies. I also learned that there are so many companies all over the world with these people working to make certain products. There are some people who do no even care for these slaves. And those are the people we should talk to as well to try and convince them otherwise. I learned that people mainly have these companies in china and Japan. They have thousands of people working in these factories that distribute merchandise and that like the phone the guy in the video is showing. It is really shocking that these people have been able to have these establishments for so long. I know that the main reason is that everyone does in deed benefit from these factories by taking part in the merchandise but it still does not make it right towards the actual slaves working there. In the near future I feel as though there should either be more pay given to these people in the factories or there should more machines or technology making these merchandise.

Honestly I would find a person approachable regardless because I am not one to easily judge. I have l always just looked at people and actually observe them before I think that they are up to no good or make any kind of general stereotype. Many people generally make different kinds of stereotypes just by looking at the person instead of actually getting to know the person. That is generally why so many people formulate their thoughts on other people. If I saw the guy in the video for instance, come in the classroom I would actually think of him as a regular student. He looks as a normal student because he dresses normally as any other student. I feel as though we should look at each other equally despite our different cultures and races. That is how stereotypes are formed because of people’s own intuitions. I do feel as though there are not as many stereotypes as there used to be a long time ago. Many of those stereotypes have cleared up due to people actually interacting with people of different cultures and races. Within the different cultures there are differences but mainly there are similarities between everyone so we should not easily judge each other. People judge everyday about the same things and it s really unnecessary because you do not know the real case. The guy in the video generally does seem approachable. He does not seem like he would be crazy or just a negative person in general. People really find it so easily to judge someone appearance oppose to how the person actually is as a person. But most of the time people put those different stereotypes on the different races and that is where the problem starts of this easily judgment of people. Race unfortunately is still a big part so society and there is not really a time we know of when the judgment of the different races will pass. Race in society maybe will always matter and some people may not ever look pass other people of race. But there has been progress over the years in our society between the different races and their stereotypes. Also it is kind of amusing when people find that the stereotypes are never really entirely true for the other cultures and races. So basically I have summed up why I do not find the man in the video to be easily judge and he does seem as though he would be approachable.

Choosing any college was always a given opportunity for me. I never had to just choose one school that I and to attend no if and or buts. But with my free will and determination that is how I chose to attend Penn State with a little help form my parents. Free will is what I feel mainly allowed me to attend Penn State because it allows you to do anything that you feel is right and equality towards everything and everyone. With out free will there would be so many restrictions on society and our own personality. Which would make the society very different. Even free will towards parent at a certain age can be a big determining factor because if your parents are sitting there telling you that you can only go to a certain school then that takes away from your free will. I feel at that age especially you should be able to attend what ever school you want to because you will be the one attending it not your parents. That is why so many students in that predicament are unhappy with the school that they attend.
With determination it gives you the push to attend any school that you may want to attend. Without the determination you probably would do nothing and not attend school to better your self. Determination can give you that will power and purpose to go to school and better your self. With both free will and determination that is what mainly allows making any decision. Also both my parent attended Penn State, which also gave me that push to come here. But it was mainly my own decision to attend this school. When I applied to Penn State I first got accepted into Penn State Altoona but because I wanted to attend University Park that gave me the determination to go to Penn State in the first place. I will also use this free will and determination to attend graduate school and any other major decision I need to make at any time. Also with the influence of people who have made good decisions I can make different decisions as well.
People use these qualities everyday all the time believe or not. Without these qualities there would be nothing people would do or want to do. That is what gives us the push in society now so that we can have the pride to do what ever we want that any particular time. That is why this subject was really interesting to me because these are all everyday neutral qualities towards every one; some people just choose not to use it unfortunately. Also as I am getting older and as an adult I will continue to use these qualities.

I honestly feel as though we do not have a responsibility to those less unfortunate. Yes, we do have the right to help those less fortunate than we are, but I do not think we should take full responsibility for their situation. Everybody who is in the situation in which they are has some sort of opportunity to get out of that situation, but choose a different path. For example, a young man in a low income neighborhood who consistently sees drug dealing who feels that it is his only way out which shows him not seeing his opportunities to his fullest extent every child has an opportunity to go to a n elementary, middle, and high school. It is that child’s opportunity to choose what they do with it. We all have a choice when it comes to it. Yes I do feel as though people that are fortunate can help them but they would have to want the help as well. I also feel as though it about whom you know in society and how they can help you. The more people you know in society, the more they are willing to help you. Also people put their own self in the predicaments that they are in and everyone is responsible for their own self. People born into the situation can also be helped because people can always give that helping hand towards them. I feel that we should help those who help themselves. A hand should be given to those who are trying to better themselves and make progress. If a person is content with their situation, the responsibility can not fall on another to get them out of it. I feel as though everyone situation is different, and in today’s economy it’s hard for those less fortunate to afford certain things. With that being said, I don’t believe that it should be a responsibility for those better off to help the less fortunate but more of a helping hand. But in some cases people may be taken advantage of which is why people may be less lenient in helping them. That is why people may be in those unfortunate situations. As talked about in class I do feel as though if you work hard then you become more successful. Though race is tied into it somehow in the society, depending on where and how the situation is at that moment in time. Responsibility is not even the word that should be used towards other people is not in the predicament it would be more like sympathy. Also the main thing is if the person is wiling to help that person less unfortunate. That is why the less unfortunate should just try and work to get out of that situation

As we all may know there is still racism present in our society unfortunately. Without the involvement of people hurting or physically mistreating people still find a way to make their racism known as this lady in the video. Sadly she does not even realize how may be effect of how much of an impact can be put on the Islamic or Jewish people in society. Also a good example is the effect from the video being said in the video. But everyday people try to limit the racism so I do not understand why she even thinks and is allowed to put the ads up in the MTA or anywhere else in the public. Though she has the right for freedom of speech I still do not understand why the head of the company of the transits cannot just say “no we do not want ads showing such racism”. It is upsetting that people still try to portray racism but I will admit that the woman is bold. And has very strong feelings to not try to stand down. She even did a lawsuit, which she won which is just crazy when we try to limit the racism. I feel as though this lady will not give up until she has her ads every but hopefully someone can somehow advise her in a different direction. Though she may be advised the sad thing is another racism, bigot, what ever the case may be will just come around to do the same thing unfortunately. I do feel as though the transits in all the major cities need to be more strict on their ads because there has to be many other people trying to deliver similar messages and using the first amendment to put them all up as well. There should not be any ads at all that give the certain message about races of any ethnic groups unless saying some thing positive, in which they all should give a positive message. The reason for only these ads are because so many different people walk through these transits taking the train so it can really has an effect. That is why I respected that council member personally because he strongly stated that people should not still think that after she put up the ads that the entire racial group is feeling that way or is directed from and to the certain race. That message was very important because that is what causes riot and other demands from people actually believing in the full racism having the thought that the whole racial group feels the same way. It makes things not fair toward other people of the same race at any standpoint from that ad.

As I was looking at the people in the different slides that day in class it was very difficult to identify where the certain person is actually from. We learn how to identify different races from when we are very young and majority of the time we usually can figure out a race because it seems self-explanatory the certain race has similarities in appearance which would classify their race. When we usually have certain information sheets to fill out and we have to clarify our race, I never really noticed the different classification closely as I have in this class. Also I did not know that if you are from a certain place and look a certain race you can still be classified as another race other than what you really look like from the outside. Also if you grew up in a certain place ad never really traveled it can be hard to classify a person as a certain race if you do not know what other races may be classified as by where they are from. Which came to how confused I was when we had to guess where people are from on the slides. Since I was so used to a person looking a certain way being identified as a certain race it was confusing as to what they would really be identified as a particular race. People really can be from anywhere and look a certain way but be identified by that place. That is what is so interesting to me because so many people would get the nationality wrong and would not even know it. In class we got so many of the answers wrong as to where the person in from and that was very surprising.
