The Comment Factory : Infiltration of activist groups in New Zealand is wrong and detrimental to the country

According to clinical studies, that ingredient
is a compound called Cynergy TK. The skin surrounding your eyes is not
just the most delicate and sensitive of the rest of
your body skin, but this is also the very skin that shows the initial signs of neglect
and aging. Furthermore, the Food and Drug Administration does not
require animal testing for general personal care, cosmetics or household cleaning products.

The Comment Factory : Sublime All Blacks reach world cup final

Really? ...I think there is a lot more history and emotion to this than anyone who is not a Kiwi can possibly begin to understand, ..but then this was a tough one for us to publish because it is after all a sporting perspective, ...and we know with this there are always two very different loyalties. Thankfully we have 22 large men more than happy to settle this matter on our behalf, ...which they have now more than admirably done.

You're mixing up politeness with decency. Zac is polite. He was bred that way. He's also bred to know how to deflect arguments and not have to answer questions. Jon is doing more than "just his job". He's speaking truth to power. And power doesn't like that. In conclusion, Zac is a twat. Jon Snow isn't. But we all knew that.

The Comment Factory : Haiti: Do we and should we care?

You're exploring an interesting angle here Rafer. What I would like to see is the evidence to back up your argument. What are the good reasons DFiD or HMG have to not lend a humanitarian hand? I realise that we can't solve every disaster but, you do make very pertinent points about there not being such a personal connection to Haiti in the UK - we spent more money on the Pakistan quake in one month than we have in six months of Haiti.... The fact we have a strong Pakistan connection is a factor in that. But Haiti is no lesser a tragedy. There are more dead in a tiny patch of land in the Caribbean than there are in the whole of the South Asian tsunami disaster of 2004.

yeah nothing wrong with thoughtful criticism, but this is just trash, it's quite unbelievable it was printed to be honest. i don't think that defending chomsky from attack is akin to hero worship, he's the only mainstream voice saying these things, so it's worth watching out for the slanders for him.

The Comment Factory : The rise of Lieberman means it's time to withdraw aid and blockade Israel

Israel will never, ever be blockaded by the Quartet, it's more likely that an asteroid will hit earth tomorrow. The purpose of the article was merely to highlight the hypocrisy of the US and EU -- Israel's mask is off and they still can't do anything about it. On another note I think a blockade on Israel would serve some purpose. I think the reason the country acts with such impunity and massacres so regularly is because it knows the US will always back it; if this support was withdrawn or harsher still a blockade imposed Israel would be lost, and they'd have to act more civilized because of it.

The Comment Factory : A letter to Israeli dissident, Enbal Gross

OK: "This is a personal perception and not fact-based at all. So be it, for now, despite the fact that Israel is a pluralistic, democratic society having been led by both left and right-wing governments throughout her 60 years. You might need to back your “understanding” with factual material." Of course, it's personal perception. It's a comment piece about Enbal's feeling growing up. Israel democratic? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?stor... "(1) 1948 War of Independence: Note the table of force comparison on the right. Please note that no less than 7 Arab countries simultaneously attacked Israel. (2) 1956 Suez War: Note the table of force comparison on the right. (3) 1967 War: Do I still have to remind you to learn the table on the right? (4) 1973 War: Please note that Israel was attacked by three Arab nations on her holiest day" What Enbal was talking about was how you are constantly taught you are outnumbered and everyone wants to kill, which is funny when you are the 4th biggest military on the planet, the only state in the Middle East with nuclear weapons, and have the support of the worlds only superpower. Also, Suez War was fought alonside US and Britain, you weren't outnumbered. “No choice”. Does this mean its punishable if you don’t? The only locations I know of in which this type of “offense” is punishable are in Sha’riah states." What are you talking about? "Oh boy! I think that you have remained in some chosen dark place. Take a look at Sayyed Qutb and Hassan al-Banna, and even Mawdoodi, and other fellows like them, all of whom wrote long before any of the events in question and who explained why they hate the West and Jews. For example, this is from the writings of Qutb:" Look at what Enbal said: “People need to break the bloody circle by seeing that they’ve been brainwashed their whole life to believe that “war is the only way they know”, and that the Islam calls them to kill all Jews – it is just false”. You are saying because some thinkers are Islamic, then all Islamic people are Jew-haters. Are you mad? "You compare one Yigal Amir and Goldstein to many muslims. Yigal Amir did not mange to organize mass rallies, nor was he sent by any group. The comparison is outrageous. Not only did you NOT see Israelis distributing sweets after this horrific event, it was investigated like none other, rebuked and certainly does not reflect any group or Israeli policy. If you really want to go down this road, you will find it bloodied with Israeli blood for countless “martyrs and Hamas heroes”. Shame on you for drawing such a comparison. Yes, the vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists, but why is it that the vast majority of terrorists are Muslim?" What about the attack on Gaza, is that going to be investigated by Israel? What about Sabra and Shatila.... I honestly can't be bothered to go through more. I've learnt it's a futile exercize to argue with nationalists, because they can't see rationally and just vomit up propaganda all the time. Enbal is a breath of fresh air, she's escaped the ideological control of her society and is living a noble life because of it. ...

The Comment Factory : How do you know Mexico is in a ditch? Just read today's paper

If there is a particularly bad case in Mexico, you sit down and you work out why. What structural reasons are there that the situation is so much worse there than anywhere else with comparative amounts of drugs. Then you address those structural problems. Obviously sending the military in is not making the situation better, it's just a short term political expedient rather than looking at the underlying factors which need to be addressed. If you want options you clean up the police force, that's not a dreamy utopian idea. If they wanted to do it they could. Would cost more money, i.e. they would have to pay the police better so they aren't seduced by bribery. Other main option is to legalize drugs. I'm a libertarian on this; anywhere something is illegal, a black market takes its place, with all the violence and theft that involves. Instead of criminalizing people, you should make it legal, and state overseen. But Tomas if you read the CS article people say that the Mexicans think it's not working. It's him trying to look tough, and under the order of the U.S. which is funding it for their own weird political-puritanical ends. They could continue a policy which is obviously not working and causing hundreds of dead?
