2nd Degree murder is a lesser included offense of 1st degree murder. She won't be re-tried as that would violate the double jeapordy rule that is prohibited in the Constitution. She is free after she serves her sentence for the 4-counts of her lying to LE.

If they really want to make a difference they should go to Iran or China, or even Russia to protest those nuclear programs. Realistically, the U.S. will always have nucs as long as those other countries do, and I think it would be a much more sincere message for them if they were to take their "peace" message to a more "hard Target."

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Lawmakers gather in special session to slash budget | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News |

Here's a novel idea - why doesn't a "bright" reporter actually do some unbiased legwork and go out and get a list of all the budget items thet are being funded in Washington. And I mean all of them including pork waste - not just the police and education areas. I want to know what the specific programs are that is costing us money and for how much, and then we can monitor our legislator's progress on really cutting the fat. I had a neighbor that got their house half paid for from some feel-good special loan/grant give-away that was supposed to be for farmers. Needless to say my neighbor's house was on a regular lot and the only thing they farmed was uncut grass in their front yard.

The Boy Scouts of America are one of the few youth organizations that is focused on honesty, integrity, and producing young men of character. This young boy isn't a hero as he simply did what anyone in our society should have done - return money that wasn't his. He did the right thing and has proven himself worthy to wear the BSA uniform.

Sorry, dragonheart. I don't think I believe you. I've read through a lot of the posts here, and you for one have made many posts, but very few with any real logic. As a matter of observation, when someone states an opinion you don't agree with, you always pass judgement and attack the person who made the statement, and then spin their statements. This is a big no no even in High School debate let alone someone who claims to be a pro. Once you attack the speaker, you've lost the point. Even in the statement you make above you are making closed minded decalarations and then demanding everyone agree with you or they won't be tolerated... And BTW it is you condemning an entire group of people based on a few of your own misinformed perceptions. Go back and read your posts objectively and you'll see what I mean if you trully have the ability to look at all sides of an issue. To get back on the subject, when these guys were asked to leave this private property it doesn't matter what they were doing, or who was telling what to whom, they should have left <period>.

um - he's not a commissioned Officer; but a non-com. In the Navy a Master Chief Petty Officer is an E-9 which is equivalent to a Sergeant-Major in the Army, or a Chief Master Sergeant in the AF. And in my experience commissioned Officers are hammered for this kind of stuff.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Marine who threw himself on grenade again denied Medal of Honor | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington |

BTW - here's the criteria for the Navy Cross: "The Navy Cross may be awarded to any person who, while serving with the Navy or Marine Corps, distinguishes himself in action by extraordinary heroism not justifying an award of the Medal of Honor. The action must take place under one of three circumstances: while engaged in action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or, while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict in which the United States is not a belligerent party. To earn a Navy Cross the act to be commended must be performed in the presence of great danger or at great personal risk and must be performed in such a manner as to render the individual highly conspicuous among others of equal grade, rate, experience, or position of responsibility. An accumulation of minor acts of heroism does not justify an award of the Navy Cross."

Also note that Sgt. Peralta is being awarded the Navy Cross which is a great honor in and of itself. The Navy Cross is a heroic medal that by no means is a trivial award. An unanimous board decided Sgt. Peralta's heroic action did not meet the exacting high standard of a Medal of Honor, although it did meet the high standard required for a Navy Cross. And us armchair quarterbacks should be careful as to what we decide based on evidence provided by the media. It would be a far greater injustice to dilute what the Medal of Honor means. Lots of courageous people die during the defense of our country, but unfortunately not all warrant the standard of the Medal of Honor. This does not make the action of the hero any less heroic which I think is what people are getting caught up on.

Yes, there is no doubt that Sgt. Peralta is a hero; period. Thats not what is being called into question at all. This is the criteria for the Medal of honor: "The Medal of Honor is awarded by the President, in the name of Congress, to a person who, while a member of the 'U.S. Military Service', distinguishes himself or herself conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in action against an enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party. The deed performed must have been one of personal bravery or self-sacrifice so conspicuous as to clearly distinguish the individual above his or her comrades and must have involved risk of life. Incontestable proof of the performance of the service will be exacted and each recommendation for the award of this decoration will be considered on the standard of extraordinary merit." (cont.)

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Eyewitness contradicts police account of shooting | KOMO News - Seattle, Washington | Local

I think I agree; unfortunately eye witnesses are often wrong with how they believe they "perceive" events. There have been many people sent to prison on "eye witness" accounts that were later exonherated by DNA. And this eye witness is a friend of the victim too, so he might be a little biased. Of course this is all hypothetical as I have no way of knowing what is true and what isn't from the way the article is written.

I don't know what to say but feel I need to post something. I am trully humbled by this young man. I guess one of the biggest "honors" a person can achieve in life is to be a person who cares about others before ones-self. Brenden has had an impact not only on the homeless people he helped but on all of us through the example he set.
There is a great deal of research about the causality of Homosexuality although much of the interesting stuff is suppressed due to the sensitive nature of our left leaning press. However, the "facts" are there is evidence that a lot of homosexuals developed their leanings from: 1) Sexual abuse as a child by a bully (relative & authoritative figures included). 2) Single parent households - yes, the genders are not the same contrary to popular myth. A child raised without positive male and female role models is at risk of a number of disorders. 3) Early exposure to pornography can retard sexual development. Note that homosexuality was considered a mental illness until the 70s when the push for Political Correctness started to take hold. In my opinion there probably is a biological attribute that can explain the homosexual urgings of some, but regardless my post is about what the person does with these urgings. It definitely is a choice that you have whether to act upon a given urge or not. All people experience inappropriate urges in response to temptations; not just gays. Normal people have just learned to control themselves. Of course there are other deviant behaviors that people succumb to, but it still always comes down to the choices they make.
