TorrentFreak : Google Joins Fight Against BitTorrent Throttling ISPs

That's crappy... there's no throttling at the University here. Depending on the network load, you can upload between 2 and 8 MB/s... that'll get your ratio up pretty quick! No idea how fast the download can go, I've never gotten it above 1.5MB/s.

Well, the more they expand the discrimination, the more powerful the response will be. Now they'll be screwing over more than just "dirty pirates"... maybe that will help in the bigger picture.

TorrentFreak : ISP Capitulates to IFPI, Agrees to Disconnect Pirates

Maybe people shouldn't switch ISPs right away. Maybe they should let themselves get disconnected. If that happens to enough people, then Eircom will be forced to change its tune due to loss of revenue. Business seem to understand only the language of profit, as they cannot AFFORD to be ethical.

I don't consider Google totally open about this sort of thing. After all, isn't it the case that Gmail and Talk are STILL considered betas simply as part of a ploy to avoid having to include them in earnings projections? That sounds like something other than "transparency" to me. Anyone who installed Chrome on their Windows computer has probably seen how the program installs itself in the hidden AppData folder for each user, rather than in Program Files like *every* other program. Doesn't even give you a choice of directory for install. Transparent? Maybe too much so... I use their services, but I don't trust them 100%

In one sense, I'm actually glad this happened. This sort of thing might finally mobilize people to do something... even if it's just to switch ISP's. Which country ISP's will be next?

TorrentFreak : No '3 Strikes' Disconnection for UK Pirates

There you go with the "Big Brother is good" speech again. Besides this system not being technically feasible, it still is missing the point that these electronic files being transferred have no monetary value. They are not scarce, in fact, they are the exact opposite of scarce... they are infinitely reproducible. So the value these rights holders are claiming they ought to be be compensated for is all BS. Nothing has BEEN taken, and what was shared in not scarce, and thus has no monetary value. Do you recommend we start paying for air to breathe? It is in fact in more limited supply than these digital files, which are limitless. I dearly hope Zeitgeist is correct and that the monetary system is doomed to fail in our lifetimes. I shall not mourn its passing.

that "bittorrent dies an early death" link is interesting, but a little silly. I think it's overly pessimistic, and predicting that "technology will always stay the same as it is now" is sure to be wrong.
