Every other storyline is hammer made of candy canes so it's understandable that the ONE plot line that isn't thus causes confusion. Do not get me started on the Wisconsin plot line. I grew up in Wisconsin and Colin's visit there is so ludicrous it's insulting.

It's so...strangely real? When you're that mad words don't quite form. It's refreshing to see this in a film, where everyone usually has a snappy way of expressing themselves. That's not an amusing comment, but it's true.

Thanks a lot! I do enjoy discussion and I'm definitely not looking for some hard-line dogma. Being raised UU I think really prevents one ever from being able to follow unquestionably.

I was raised UU and always found it TOO secular. Every question I asked was answered with "what do YOU think?" I have long felt a certain affinity/fondness for what i know of the Jewish tradition. This has me considering visiting my local temple. Thanks for sharing.

The Toast : The Waiting Room: You Have Kids, Right?

As a fellow "sick kid" this definitely hit right at a lot of how I feel. My kids have 50% chance of having my condition but there's no way to tell the severity. I have thought about if I would be willing to care for a child that will never be able to live on their own and decided I can't do that. I am more on the fence about raising kids than the author, though it feels like every year I get closer to being sure I won't. Even though I've decided to never become pregnant, I'm angry sometimes that it really wasn't up to me. Someone making a comment like not-David would definitely be very hurtful to me.

That makes me think of a boy in my middle-class high school who died of an overdose at a rave. He got a whole memorial page in the yearbook that year. At a school in the "bad" part of town he would just be another empty desk.
